E350 sedan compared to coupe??
My E550 4matic sedan is going back this winter and I am looking to get a coupe. I started this thread about the lack of a E550 4matic coupe. https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post5220351.
My parents have an 11' E350 4matic sedan and it's a big yawn to me. How does the 350 coupe compare to the sedan? I am going to test drive one soon, to see if the smaller coupe, somewhat makes up for the lack of 550 power i am used to in a sedan.

Hi, this doesn't answer your question but have you driven the 2012 E 350?
Your parents have a 2011 350 sedan BUT the 2012 302 HP 350 plus the revised 2012 tranny make the 2012 much more responsive. The 2012 feels much stronger .
After driving the 2012, buying a used 2011 fell off my possible list.
With a 2012, you might get by without moving up to the 550????
I'd love the 550 but I'm getting E Wagon and they have no 550 option

If you compared it to sedan in regards to quality , W212 sedan has a better quality and you can feel it when you get inside
E Coupe is really narrow , I contribute it ti being W204 based but I kinda liked pillarless doors when I got in
Center console needs facelift and no leather covered dashboard available
If I ever wanted to buy a coupe my choice would be C207 nothing else

Regardless, neither the E350 coupe or sedan will come close to the power in your current E550. I would recommend that you stay with the big motor.

1. IMO E550s (sedan and coupe) have even more significan power boost than E350s.
2. I have E550 cpe and E350 rwd sdn (both 2010), so its not the exact comparison you're looking for since coupe is lighter vs. sedan. However, prior to buying E350 sedan I test drove E550 sedan extensively (not to mention that I already had a coupe for 8 months prior). The performance envelope differences (accelaration, lack of ride settings in 350) were IMHO significant. So why did I buy E350? Mostly price. Do I regret doing so? Every time I drive car with AC on - yes, most other times - not so much.
3. E350 cpe 4matic is certainly a compromise IMHO if compared to E550 cpe (FYI 350 cpe unlike E350 sedan, does not have "AMG sport" styling option - looks like sedan's "luxury" exteriors), but since there's no E550 cpe 4matic and you want a coupe, you're stuck. Styling is very important for me when buying a car. Lack of "AMG sport" styling on E350 coupe would preclude me even looking at it. On a side note, I can not believe MB is not offering E350 cpe with "sport" styling while it does for sedan and for W204 coupe(I would not consider it though).
4. CLS is not (nor feels like) a coupe, regardless what MB calls it. Its just an upscale to E550 sedan (much more so inside), with different exterior and less room inside (especially back).

No AMG package on the E350 coupe 4Matic in the US? That is very strange. My wife ordered a new 2013 E350 Coupe 4Matic with AMG Sport Package($1,500.00 option). As far as the interior is concerned, it is superior to her 2010 E350 4Matic sed. The interior has multicontour front seats with Merlot Red Nappa/Nubuk leather. The coupe is 5" shorter than the Sed. The 2012 model that we test drove was very nice and much sportier.
The engine is superior to the 2010 model and because the coupe is a little lighter, certainly outperforms her present car. Will it be as rewarding as your 550 engine?.........No it won't.

If you need AWD and do not want a sedan (since you're not considering E550 anymore) IMHO CLS will not do either - its a sedan with a coupe like feel once inside. There's also a significant price premium over E350 4matic coupe (BTW, E350 coupes are NOT orderable with AMG sports package in the US).
When I was in process of buying my E550 coupe, I thought of S5 really hard and mostly due to Audi's wonderfull Quattro and its handling prowness. But lack of a real sunroof in S5 and the pillarless look of E coupe (a semi-convertible, if you want) in addition to me being in FL instead of NY (althoug AWD is very handy in the downpours), drove me more toward E550. Now if I were in NY and it woulde be my daily car (snow, etc.), Audi S5 (but, not A5) without any hesitation.

I've never driven the E550C, but no one over in the C207 forum is complaining that the car doesn't meet their desires. Quite the opposite; the operative word they generally use to describe it is "beast," with an occasional "Awesome" thrown in, coupled with disbelief there is really "only" 402hp lurking under the hood. Of course, if you want 4Matic, you're stuck with an E350C for now.
Comparing the coupes to the sedans, no question you are getting more for the money with the sedan and it is a uniquely stunning vehicle. However, I have no issues whatsoever with the build quality of my coupe, the controls, the interior layout nor any other aspect of the car, thus far.
The coupe's somewhat modified C Chassis is nothing to sneeze at; the car is amazingly solid and rattle-free (again, thus far) for what is essentially a two-door hardtop. I can whip this car around corners and curves at speeds I never thought possible. And IMO the car just looks cool, too.
Far more E Sedans are sold than Coupes, which may have something to say about far more people being sensible, but with the coupe you'll be driving something a little rarer on the road as a bonus, if that means anything to you.
Bottom line, by all means you must drive these cars and decide for
yourself.
When you do so, this is important: make sure you put the trans. in the SPORT mode drive program. You have to select it yourself, as these cars default to the Economy mode every time you start them. The car will give you maximum effort in Sport mode. Won't feel the same if you start out in the Economy mode. The 550 has the same selections to be made, but not sure they are called the same thing - something about a Dynamic Driving Mode or Dynamic Handling program I'm not familiar with. Others may help you here.

1. All of my comments pertained to the coupes. Nothing I wrote had anything to do with the sedans, except for the one paragraph, "Comparing.....," plus a passing reference to sales numbers in another paragraph.
2. My comment re 402hp related to the E550C, the subject of that entire paragraph. I own an E350C, so I know a few things about the car.
Of course, typos are always a possibility, no matter how much we know, as are misinterpretations of remarks.

I'm not sure where your information is coming from LaicepsYdobon, but I have seen no information that 4Matic is coming for the E550.
I am having the same trouble as FEGELEIN trying to justify the purchase of the 350 with 4Matic when what I want is the unavailable 550 with 4Matic. The 350 is a significant step down from the 550 both in the power numbers and finish quality [would need Designo and significant tune to compensate]. The 350's horsepower is in line with competition [BMW 335i, Audi S5], however, that torque number is a complete joke ... the E350 is a slug compared to its competitive counterparts [0-60] and is slower than the C350 [same specs, lighter car].
I have considered the Audi as well and am not impressed by the new 2013 build, they have taken away alot of the character with their latest facelift and it no longer has the same appeal in my eyes. Also, the gas mileage is terrible.

I plead the 5th where its coming from. But logically it's not had to see without any external information. If the C-Class, both Coupe and Sedan, is available with 4matic, the E-Class Sedans are available with 4matic, the 350 E-Class Coupe is available with 4matic, the CLS is available with 4matic and all the S-Classes are available with 4matic (sans the Hybrid) why single out the E550 Coupe and not have that available with 4matic ?

Logical, would have been for Mercedes to offer 4Matic on all vehicles including C250C, E550C, AMG's, E350 Bluetec Sedan, E400 Hybrid Sedan ... there is no logic involved here.
