American Muscle Cars
Any MB owners here that like American muscle cars?
I'd like a ZL1 in black:

I love 'em.
The IDEAL second car for me would be a Muscle-Car. I need the German refined luxury first and foremost.... got that.... now I just have to convince myself to go forth with a Muscle Car.

A timely post from a Member/Sponsor here on that car....
.... P.S: The new Mustang GT500 has over 650 *******g Horsepower.... I mean, that should be illegal man, any moron with $50K (not to mention rapid depreciation and how cheap that'll make those firecrackers soon enough) can have access to that power? NUTS!

These aren't the greatest pictures in the world, since I was in a bit of a rush when taking them. I wasn't going to use them, but it's not often that I get a domestic car, so I decided to just post them anyways. The owner of this red / orange Chevy Camaro came from Huntington Beach area out to me in Anaheim Hills to get the vinyl work done. He originally had a matte black vinyl roof installed on his car but he wanted to change the look up and get a gloss black roof put on there this time around.

Exactly what I was thinking. They hold values very poorly, though I can imagine these two specific cars might hold up decently compared to other Mustangs/Camaro's.

Muscle cars these days are just toys, I don't think anyone buys them for their present or future value. That being said, after driving a '12 Mustang GT, it has come a long way from it's past slop. The chassis is tight, the 5.0 is extremely powerful and it has zero drone on the highway. The camaro is still an 80's interior and needs work in the visibility department, not to mention, the thing is HUGE.

Yeah, the new GT has been compared to the M3 by some Mags and held up appropriately. Shows how far Ford has come in developing the Mustang, even off of what the chassis started as in 2005. I can imagine the next Mustang will be a tour de force.

Actually, it's true. People who buy these cars are more typically true enthusiasts who grow attached to, and like to keep them for a while. To Lease a Camaro is almost as expensive as to Lease a Benz that costs double it. M-B buyers are usually Lease-then-tossers, therefore M-B has to artificially lower Lease rates. Camaro buyers usually dream for the car, then actually buy it and keep it for a while. To get a small sample size of what I'm talking about, check out the Camaro Boards VS the M-B boards.

Not interested at all in these cars. They are so crass in terms of the aggressive look--chest thumping is putting it mildly. Seems like they appeal to the same crew that drive Harleys without mufflers--desperately looking for attention through volume and/or visual intimidation.
Much prefer the various less conspicuous muscle cars from MB, BMW, Audi and others.

I LOVE the Camaro. I loved it ever since I saw Transformers.
Though Bumblebee isn't my favorite character (that's Optimus Prime tied with Megatron), he does have the coolest vehicle form, and that's the Chevrolet Camaro.
To stay on topic, I also like the Mustang.

I don't have a muscle car but do have a Harley (with q quiet rumble) and enjoy the bike not the attention. The friends I've made riding have been great just as the ones I've met through MB enthusiast events. I have a 68 Corvette convertible on my "one day" list and sure I will enjoy that immensely as well. There is something about the simplicity of a big cubic inch V8 with no bels / whistles to break...just raw power and air in your face. The new versions of classic MC's are nice but don't quite capture the original character but do have a A$$ load of power for sure.
BTW - the new SS Camero ~425HP is only a fraction of a second faster in both the 1/4 mile and 0-60 times than my E550.

Yeah, the cars are fun, and purposefully immature, and that's the beauty of it. They don't only attract chest thumping, bombastic d-bag enthusiasts. In fact, you'll find a lot of those guys as Euro enthusiasts as well.

How many times have we heard, "OH LOOK AT MAI EXPENSSSSSIVE KAR! LOL STOOPID RICER AND REDNECK I AM EURO KLASSY"
Don't judge people by what you see and assume... (a.k.a. hatin')
On another note, Mustang > Camaro in my opinion. The Camaro is a freaking boat and, based on word of mouth, handles like one too. Based on pure looks? A tougher choice, but the Camaro doesn't look like it will age well.

I agree on that.... the Camaro's styling is so in your face and hot-for-today, I think it'll be a total eye sore at some point.... since it's such a novelty design.... BUT, I just think it's such a fun design right now, and a nice refreshing adolescent-and-proud-of-it look on roads filled with cars that all try and look like European cars.
I do think the Mustang will age better, though. The Challenger I think is the least special in terms of driving aspects, but probably the coolest of the bunch. It REALLY looks like a 60's-70's car, is so huge, and IMO is very exotic due to those factors.

no offense to anyone but the American muscle cars just look to me like giant hot wheels cars... no design concept or style whatsoever (vette excluded)

Take them on a rough, winding road and see how they do.

I know this'll sound weird, but one of the things that got me to like the W212 is how I feel for a conservative/restrained Luxury Sedan styled car, it has this kind of caricature Muscle-Car flavor in its sheetmetal, aggressively wedged shape, butch angularity, etc. Modded examples, especially with some chrome left on, are good examples of this.

I think the Nürburgring meets this requirement. 7:41 is faster than a lot of "sophisticated" sports cars including a Porsche 911 GT3, Audi R8, Mercedes SLS AMG Lamborgini Gallardo, Ferrari 599, BMW M3 and others.
Love 'em or hate 'em, the American Muscle Cars have come a long way.
