MB purchased for its fuel efficiency
I'm trying to see how many board members purchased their Mercedes-Benz for its fuel efficiency over something like a Honda FIT, Toyota Prius, etc.
Not to start the debate, but there have been some threads about the bluetec over the gas not in terms of power, but economy and I'm just trying to see how many actually purchase their Benz primarily for its fuel efficiency.
Thanks.

I don't know if people are necessarily saying they purchased their Benz for fuel economy, I think the discussion was if the diesel Benz was purchased for fuel economy vs the gas version.
For me personally, the fuel consumption was a factor, but not because I'm trying to save $5/fillup but more out of hobby, like a personal challenge to get better fuel economy. Other factors were also the different driving style of a diesel (low end torque, don't have to rev the engine as much) and also simply because it's different/more rare than the gas versions.

Fuel economy was an important factor for me but wasn't the *primary* factor.Perhaps the poll could have been re-worded to read something like "Was fuel economy a) not at all important 2) somewhat important c) quite important d) hugely important?"

I agree with both of you, I should have set it up like you said, listerone. For me, if I were looking for fuel economy, it wouldn't be a luxury car.

I purchased the bluetec, not for fuel economy but because the lease price was so darn good. However, the reason the lease price is so good is the very high residual which is due, in part to the fuel economy
as well as the perceived longevity. So I'm not sure how to answer the poll....

However, newer MB engines are fuel efficient as the badges onto the fenders suggest as well

2012 S350 Bluetec 4Matic, Diamond White, P2
For me, I wanted a fuel efficient vehicle that was also large, comfortable, and attractive. That narrowed it down to a single choice for me. I love my Bluetec.

E320 Estate for wafting and M3 SMG for blasting!
Do you get the E250cdi in the states?
That is very impressive.
My neighbour has the E250cdi after 5 years in an E320cdi, he was averaging 34mpg in the E320 and is now getting 46mpg in the E250.
Gets to 60mph in 7.3 seconds, so plenty quick enough for every day.
