My wife's 2013 W207 has parktronic and it's the same as the old model even though the car now has electric power steering. We will probablbly see it on the 2014 mid cycle model. That was one of the few disappointments with her new car.

w212 only has parking guidance. It will tell you if a parking spot is large enough and guide you in by showing you how to maneuver, but not actually park the car.

I saw a youtube video on fully automated parking system for the present CLS .
Well, I think I am kinda old school considering I park the car on my own w/o waiting the instructions given by the parking assistant guide lol

You need to get the parking package with the parking sensors to have the guidance lines I believe.. I know. Stupid.

Edit: Nvm. You have the sensors. Maybe I am missing something here?

If you have the parking guidance it will first tell you if the parking space is big enough for your car.

The way it works in my car:

When driving slowly, I think below 25 mph, there is an arrow that appears on the side of the P inside the square. Normally car looks for the right side. If I want to have it look on the left side I need to have my left blinker on.

When the arrow appears I need to stop and put the car in reverse. This is when the parking instructions start in the display.

If the little arrow is not visible on either side of the P you will not get the parking guidance.

Yeah it doesn't make sense unless the cls already has the motorized steering wheel to do something else. Does anyone know?

That's correct but prior to maneuvring you need to press OK on the steering wheel to confirm to activate it .

Here's a detailed explanations from Owners Manual :

Example: vehicles featuring automatic transmission with a DIRECT SELECT lever Detected parking space on the left
Parking symbol
Detected parking space on the right

Parking Guidance is automatically activated when you drive forwards. The system is operational at speeds of up to approximately 35 km/h. While in operation, the system independently locates and measures parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle. When driving at speeds below 30 km/h, you will see parking symbol as a status indicator in the instrument cluster.

When a parking space has been detected, an arrow towards the right or the left also appears. Parking Guidance only displays parking spaces on the front-passenger side as standard. Parking spaces on the driver's side are displayed as soon as the turn signal on the driver's side is activated. To park on the driver's side, you must leave the driver's side turn signal switched on until you have engaged reverse gear.

Parking Guidance will only detect parking spaces:

that are parallel to the direction of travel

that are at least 1.5 m wide

that are at least 1.3 m longer than your vehicle

A parking space is displayed while you are driving past it and until you are approximately 15 m away from it.
Parking
Example: vehicles featuring automatic transmission with a DIRECT SELECT lever

Stop the vehicle when the parking space symbol shows the desired parking space in the instrument cluster.

Vehicles with manual transmission: shift to reverse gear.

Vehicles with automatic transmission: shift into position R.

The multifunction display shows the Check vehicle surroundings Confirm with OK message.

Press the button on the multifunction steering wheel to confirm.

The multifunction display switches to Parking Guidance.

Depending on your distance from the parking space, the Please drive backwards message will appear in the multifunction display.

If necessary, reverse towards the parking space. This is indicated by an arrow pointing backwards.

Continue reversing until you hear a tone. Stop - the parking position has been reached. The arrow is white.

The Please steer to the right or Please steer to the left message appears in the multifunction display.

Example: vehicles featuring automatic transmission with a DIRECT SELECT lever

While the vehicle is stationary, turn the steering wheel in the specified direction until the arrow is white and a warning tone sounds.

To reverse into the parking space: maintain the steering wheel angle and reverse carefully.

Stop as soon as you hear a warning tone,

The vehicle has reached the position in which you need to countersteer.

The Please steer to the left or Please steer to the right message appears in the multifunction display.

Countersteering: while the vehicle is stationary, turn the steering wheel in the specified direction until the arrow is white and a warning tone sounds.

To reverse into the parking space: maintain the steering wheel angle and reverse carefully.

Stop as soon as you hear a warning tone, at the latest when PARKTRONIC sounds the continuous warning tone.

The Parking Guidance finished message appears in the multifunction display and a tone sounds. You may be asked to steer in a different direction and then change gear. In this case, further displays in the multifunction display will direct you to the final position.

On my E63 it told you how to park but in the two years I had it I never got it to work =(

I have it now on my 2012 ML 550, works pretty good, parks for you, I think I just need to learn to trust it. I find myself taking over at times when parking

Not sure why it didn't park itself on a $100k + car but it does on a $70,000 SUV ???
