Navigation Update Problem

I finally to the plunge and purchased a cpo 2010 e550 p2. Gotta say that I am extremely impressed with the vehicle from top to bottom.

My problem began when I used the official mercedes 2012 navigation update dvd. I installed the first disk and it advanced to 80% when it then asked for the second disk to be loaded. Unfortunately the command system seems frozen and it wont allow me to load the second disk and subsequently all of the command control buttons are non functional.

I tried turning off the car and when I restart it the load second disk screen is all that shows. The load disk button, back and clear buttons dont work either.

Not sure if anyone else has gone through this but I could sure use some advice.

Good news is that you can probably get warranty fix on it.

I fixed the issue, not sure if it was dumb luck or desperation but I held the comand "on" button for about 10 seconds when I turned it off. when I turned it on, it gave me a brief chance to eject the first disk and insert the next one. I had to do this a couple times as I only had a few seconds to eject it before it locked up again. Either way holdon the on button down longer had a reproducible effect of allowing the dvd ejection where pressing it just once to turn it off kept it frozen upon start up. I read the instructions for the navigation cover to cover and it recommends inserting the first disk into slot 1. I overlooked that part in the instructions and since I already had a disk in slot 1 I put it in slot 2. So to anyone else who is upgrading their navi software, make sure to put it in slot one or you may be in for a world of hurt

That's good to hear and thanks for your advice as well

Speaking of CDs , DVDs a friend of mine said we should not leave CDs , DVDs in the Comand unit because in hot sunny days it could damage it

I agree even command knob becomes extremely hot, so I can't touch it. As work around I do just a backup copy of all my disks and keep original ones in safe cool place of my local bank.

Just to clarify. Does it freeze while showing the progress or does it pop up the "please insert disk 2" message as stop there? I had the same thing and as dumb as it sounds you just need to hit the "ok" button on the steering wheel. Took me a hour of trying things before I figured that out

I don't recall at this point if I pressed the ok button on the steering wheel. And it froze on the "please insert disk 2" not on the progress bar. I feel like I pressed every available button in the car in a systematic fashion and then resorted to holding buttons down for an extended period of time, while (in a non denominational sort of way) called on different deities to see which one might show some mercy.
