Question E 17" winter tire??? MN

Hi,
my 2013 E Sport Wagon will have the 18" AMG wheels and I'm looking for
a 17" winter setup.

I'm finding some 17" E new takeoff wheels out there.

Our MN winters haven't been too snowy lately so I'm more interested in
a 17" all season with really good snow capability BUT an all season that is
quiet, rides good, good treadwear.

So far the Conti Extreme DWS seems to be a top option.
Stock OEM size is 245/45-17.
I'm liking the 245/50-17 DWS as that Sport front spoiler is
sooo low and 245/50 raises the vehicle 0.3" (diameter is 0.6"
bigger, 26.3" vs 25.7" OEM)
Anybody know if 245/50-17 will work , anybody using that size?

Any other tire options that would be great, 245/45 or 245/50?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I use Michelin X-Ice on 17" Elbrus Wheels. Bought them from Tire Rack and they were delivered with TPMS, mounted, balanced, etc. It was plug and play, and, I will say that the Michelin X-Ice tires are fantastic in the snow. I have a Bluetec and it is RWD only, but, I have not had any problemsgetting around in light to moderate snowfall.

I thought about the matter a lot, ended up going for 18" as the new Michelin PA4 doesn't come in 17" for our size.

Any info/pics of the Mich PA4?
TireRack has no pics or description.
Mich had some info, found a picture.
Are they brand new product?
Any tests out on them?

I see they have 6 year on defects, 30K mile treadwear warranty.
Conti's have 6 year/ 50,000 mile.

It may be too late, but I am in New England, so know a little about snow and cold like you Minnesotans.

Go with a real snow tire, you get softer rubber that you need in the cold cold temps, it is not only the tread shape that matters in the snow. We all know we rarely drive in the snow, but drive on ice cold pavement all winter long.

I have mentioned this before, tirerack has sets of four snow tires, wheels and tpms for under $1500 all in. And I do suggest you go with 17's, there are a lot of threads mentioning wheel and/or tire damage from potholes with the 18" AMG wheels.

thanks,
I had contacted him and expressed interest in the wheels but definitely
had no interest in run flats (for winter or for any time of the year).

.
One of the biggest reasons to get winter tires is not only for snow but rather for cold temperatures. All seasons rubber will get hard at low temperature and lose grip compared to winter tires.
