Tire Rotation

I am approaching the 10K mark. Somebody told me that E models have rear tires slightly larger than front but this is not the case with the 4Matic models. So I am assuming it is OK to just do a simple tire rotation every 10K miles...

It the tires are the same dimensions front and rear, you can rotate them. If they're staggered, you cannot.

But you can still swap two front and two rear wheels.

If they are unidirectional, but for what purpose?

What is purpose of washing a car? Does it drive better after washing? Same for swapping wheels, you have a chance to clean inner side.

I've rotated the tires on my 2012 E550 at 5,000 and 10,000 miles. No issues at all after rotating them.

Rotate, if it's a 4Matic the tire sizes are the same fore and aft. Almost always a good policy. Usually you get a coupon from the dealer shortly after the purchase for a free rotation. My dealer sends one out at least once a year.

Good business for the dealer, an opportunity to try to sell you brakes or tires when needed.

Interesting how nobody has yet to mention that after their first (10K mile) service, the dealer didn't have to rotate the tires. I just had my first service and the tech said they didn't have to rotate my tires based on the tread measurements + even wear all around. Even before I took it in I noticed that the tread was quite good on ALL FOUR tires and evenly wearing somehow... Anyone had similar results?

My dealer rotates them for free every 5k, but I'm not staggered. Wear seems ok for all season tires.

I rotate side to side with staggered tire sizes on my E550 (RWD).

This helps the rear tires wear evenly, as MB rear differential sends more traction to right rear and wears it more than left. The front tires also can wear irregularly depending on where you drive (mostly left versus right turns), etc.

I have noted better mileage with this rotation pattern out of each set of tires. No clear issues with vibration or performance, as long as you also balance each time you rotate.
