Street Names?

I realize that the topic of having bad experience with navigation on W212 has been discussed extensively in the past. However, I have a very specific question regarding upgrading my 2011 navigation software to a newer ‘12/’13 version.
I just dropped off my car with the dealer to get wood panels replaced. I was given 2012 C-Class and, on my way back from the dealer, I noticed that its navigation screen displayed street names. Having street names displayed on the Navigation screen is something that my 2011 never been able to do. At some point, I was even told dealer that it was the way navigation software had been designed and there was nothing they could do to enable street names.
I called SA and asked him to see if they could upgrade my navigation to a newer version so it would display street names. I just received a v-mail back where the SA acknowledged the fact that newer 2012/2013 cars have different navigation software and it does in fact display street names. But he also mentioned that he wasn’t 100% positive if there were any navigation upgrades available for my particular car that would enable street names. He promised to check with a shop foreman on Monday regarding this.
Does it sound right to everyone? Has anyone tried to go from 2011 navigation software to a newer one and if yes, have you noticed drastic changes and see street names now?

It might display street names when you are navigating to an address. However, if you enter navigation screen while driving you won't see street names except very large/main ones (at least this is behavior I get on my 2011).

mine shows the streets running parallel to me, but NOT the names of streets im crossing, which really annoys me as i need to know what cross street im on, not the one im driving on....

Mine shows the names of the crossing streets, but not all of them. I think because my NAV software (NAVTEC?) is probably out of date. I am waiting for the next big update and then I will update and try it out.

I think my model from first production batch (something back to 2009) displays street names perfectly. Sure navigation got many upgrades since, but I am happy I have the feature in first place.

I should add to my earlier message. My 2011 E550 has street names, including many cross streets, but they are posted only when the resolution is set to 1/16 mile. Otherwise, the detail is too dense to show street names.
