Anyone find how to add lines to BU Camera?
I test drove a 2013 GLK today and was very impressed with the lines in the backup camera. They show distance and yellow lines show your track as you turn the wheel. It made the camera information really helpful compared to my blank screen. I know they are adding these lines to the 2014 models but I would think it would be a simple software mod to add them to our cameras. I searched but didn't find if anyone has had this done.

I thought the lines were included when you had the uber driver assist package (the stand alone options after you opt for the P02 package). Maybe I'm wrong but I swear the sales guys showed me this when I test drove a loaded BlueTec recently.
Either way, it sure would be nice to have something more than a picture. I have the sensors in my other ride and they are way better than a camera (with or without the guide lines).

My 2010 has the driver assist package and no lines, maybe the newer ones do though.

I read some old posts in the past that they actually had the "dynamic lines" in the Back Up camera before but because of some stupid lawsuit some stupid person who backed up to hit something against MB they disabled this awesome feature in N.A.
Thanks to our awesome legal system.
I would get those lines in my B.U. camers and sign any paper for it not to hold MB responsible for any accident I would cause while backing up my car but some lawyer would find a way to take MB toa acourt room anyway, so they just diasbled it, period.

I don't understand why they have the lines in the GLK if there is a problem. Even my friends Ford has the lines.
If the lines were simply disabled,on our cars, it would seem that they could be re-activated. I wonder, however, if it takes more than a software update since there is a tie-in to the steering.

Mine is 2012 and no lines either . I believe SCN or DAS could reactivate it . I think it's kinda confusing with the lines this must be why they cancelled it . Audis come with these , at 1st glance I got no idea what red blue areas indicated then figured it out after reading the book lol

The New 2015 C300 has it.
Recently I had that car as a loaner and I liked the larger "Tablet" like display.
The interesting feature of the guide lines is that when you're turning and backing up the guide lines actually curve as the car is backing up and turning.
I doubt pre-2014 W212 can get this added.

'15 E350 has the backup (curving) lines and they are very helpful. I also have a red horizontal line in the front camera that shows how close you are getting to objects in the front. That's also quite helpful.

This is maddening because the manual (in paper form and in the car) on my 2013 E350 both depict back-up lines and explain the feature. However, there's no way to enable them.

Dynamic parking lines
Dynamic parking lines were added for MY2014 for E Class, along with Parking Assist Package and 360 camera.
If you desire all three features, then you had better look for a MY2014-2015 E Class.
MY2016, effective from March 2015 production, will not have Parking Assist nor 360 camera.

While they would be nice to have you still need to rely on the side view mirrors to be sure to clear vehicles and objects to the left and right of the space into which you are backing so having reference lines are likely to cause some degree of fixation on the screen and a loss of situational awareness.
As to distanced, my camera view is right off my rear bumper - I can see steam on cold days coming out of the tips - and as far back as anyone would want.
If I get withing 2 ft of an object It is right there so I don't need reference lines to tell me to stop.
I think they are a bit gimmicky and a sales feature but from a functional perspective the camera is really what it is all about.

I like the rear reference lines because they help (fairly accurately) determine if you will clear an object while backing up with wheels turned, even before you start moving backwards.

I wish my 2012 had the lines. Older Audi's have them. I like the "tire track" lines for parallel parking, a cars side mirrors aren't that great for seeing the curb. I actually find my crew cab F-150 with towing mirrors easier to back in and parallel park (without a backup camera)

Is it possible to replace OEM camera with a
high quality CCD that has built in lines? I have
seen many for sale. I would think using factory
wiring would make for an easy job. Any electronic
wizards out there willing to help? AND yes I do
use old style mirrors!

Yes, my 2014 E class has the dynamic lines on rear view monitor (even without parking assistance package). As discussed above they were added in 2014 model change.
I would think that the entire set up could be transplanted to the car which doesn't have this feature. Forget about warranty anyways.

You do know you can set the mirror on the passenger side to dip when the car is in reverse and the right side mirror button selected?.
I can see the right rear tire (just!) when parallel parking.
You have to have the mirror set correctly. i.e you can just see the side of the car when you move your head to the middle of the car. Your blind spot will be covered too.

FreedP - Not really. My comment relates to the comment re vision of the curb when parallel parking by Russ 103.
Some folks I know who are members of the club and long time MB owners don't realize this function exists.
Just trying to add to the conversation mate.
