Auto dimming mirror
Auto dimming mirror
There isn't a way to turn off the rear view mirror?! I usually turn on the light above my sons car seat and it dims to where i can't see him at night while driving. I have a button on the mirror in my lexus that takes care of this problem. Any ideas anyone?

Put a small piece of black tape over the sensor on the mirror so it will not see the light. This is silly but without the switch there is no other way (other than if you somehow disconnect the power to the dimming function).
I think this also disables the dimming function of the driver side outside mirror.
There isn't a button however if you raise the privacy net on the rear window it will disable the auto dimmer.
Can you adjust the amount of dimming? It is still too bright at night for me and so I have to angle the mirror away from me. If there is an adjustment possible, then chrisvr6 can use that to cancel the dimming without having to use tape.

The rear window shade disables the automatic mirror dimmer due to blocking the light coming from cars behind. The OP has the light ON inside the car so this does not help.

Very interesting. I experienced with this today in the morning in pitch dark and could not make the rear head rest to disappear when the rear dome light was ON. Wonder what your problem really is...?
