Warranty- Mercedes Limited or Not

Hello all ,
My factory warranty will run out this Oct , so while at the dealer, I got a quote for the Mercedes Limited which was additional 3 years/75k for around 3k .
I currently only have 11k. I plan on keeping this car longer than 3 years so I do not think 3 years of coverage for 3k is really worth it ?! On the other hand I hear mercury is a great extended warranty especially with mercedes claims, so I called a broker and they offered additional 7 year/ ( if before 15k miles odo ) 75k or 100k for around 3k as well, exclusionary with tech package , no deductible, and full labor. I understand Mercedes warranties are the best but would you guys recommend even buying a warranty considering the low mileage as of now( I drive around 8k/year) ? I have bought extended warranties on my higher mileage cars but just confused whether I may need one or not. I have time to decide but yeah.
Thanks.

It all depends on what you have in your car. With your very low yearly mileage the 75 000 additional miles don't really count as you only make about 30 000 miles during the four years of the original 4 year warranty and they probably also know this. MB is warranteing your car only for about 56 000 miles although their warranty is for 125 000 miles on the paper.

But, as I said, it depends what your car has. If it is fully loaded I would get the warranty for sure and even if not it is kind of low cost compared to what can happen.

Check out:

https://mbworld.org/forums/general-m...arranty-2.html

You can get an extended warranty from any dealer in the country and this thread gives some names of places that are willing to deal easily on the MB warranty. Someone got 7/75 on an E350 for $2005. Personally I'd stay away from 3rd party warranties, too many horror stories. All extended warranties are very high markup items and the $2k price is a bit more realistic comparison point.

Well the car has P2 so it does have stuff that can be costly to fix, especially the command. I don't mind a mercedes warranty its just only the 3 additional years compared to Mecury's additional 7 years. I don't plan on keeping it that long, its just more time.
Ill call around with the numbers in that thread and see what they have to say.

Good idea to check, if you don't mind, let us know what they are quoting you. Since you mentioned the Command system, does that "exclusionary of tech package" mean that the Mercury warranty doesn't cover it (and say the radio, audio, Nav, bluetooth, sirius, control knob etc) in there?

I too would stay away from non-MB warranties.

Mercury will cover all those items if you buy the tech package which is about $200 extra. I called Frank and got a quote for around 2100, way better than my local dealer.

First time ever considered

Probably owned about 15 cars that were purchased new. Never even considered extended warranties even though used to drive cars until had 100,000+ miles on them. Asian and American mid-price cars for most part and no problems.
Now, I'm seriously considering extended warrantly. At less than 10,000 miles the tilt function in car failed. Took dealer 1.5 days to repair under warranty after part came in. How much would that have cost me?
Have been quoted 12 mos.-$2,070; 2 year- 2,440; and 3 year-2,900. These start after 4 year warranty expires. This is after wiaving the 15% surcharge. Not sure what mileages would be since that is not an issue with me.
Not sure what surcharge is for, since have received correspondence from MB saying it would be waived if purchased by certain date.
I would not even consider a non-MB warranty. One advantage to MB plan is that every MB dealer has to honor it.

About 5-6 yrs ago I bought a preowned E320cdi. Wanted an extended warranty but could not get one from MB. After checking I contacted AAA. They have a warranty service which I bought. My local MB dealer had no problems having them take care of any repairs.

I no longer have the car but hope this may be helpful to others. I have not seen anybody mention AAA as a source for extended warranty.
