K & N air filter- 2012 W212

Who has replaced oem air filters with K & N #33-2985 ? I am very familiar w/ K&N and have used them in several cars and BIG RV. Just haven't installed them in MB's. Does the new DI engine use 1 or 2 filters? Seems that I have seen 2 being installed on internet. K&N site only mentions 1. Will be getting my A service in March so that will be the time to make a change. Amazon seems as good a place to buy. $40.46 and free shipping.

If you have installed K&N what are your results?

Have you checked under your hood?

On the serious side, I don't want to be Donnie Downer, but if I were you I'd check to see of our cars use heated element type MAFs. Oiled K&N's have been known to kill these types of MAFs and I can't imagine they are cheap to replace.

You say you are familiar with them from prior use, but not all cars use heated element MAFs.

This thread should provide some insight:

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...n-filters.html

Judging from the layout and routing of the engine air intake I'm thinking the 2012 V6 DI engine only has one air filter, but I don't know for sure ... I have not changed mine yet.

Thx for the reply. After looking @ the E550 set up I think that's what threw me. It looks like the V8 uses 2 filters and the V6 only uses 1. If I am wrong let me know.

Does any know that installing K&N air filters will cancel the warranty?

I got K&Ns on my car. Took the car in for service B and informed the service advisor NOT to do anything with the air filter. So far dealer hasnt mentioned anything about the warranty being voided.

I'm sure if it came down to it and there were some major problems with the car that had anything to do with anything that dealt with the air filters, they will attribute it to the K&Ns and void the warranty.

Apparently K&N's are more harmful than good for these cars, and won't increase any performance (I've even heard some guys claim decrease if anything).

M-B and BMW balance their motors out to a point where things like K&N Air Filters aren't the commodities they were in the old Mustang days (when I was all about K&N's). I'd avoid it and save some $$$$.

I don't know about the MB MAF but I had a altima and the MAF went. I was concerned about the issue so I put back the stock filter before getting it to the dealer. They told me that the only failures they had were with K&N filters. Since it occured twice, the second time after the warantee was way over, I decided not to use them in any of my cars anymore

True, and they don't filter as well as paper.
