I had a escort 9500ix hardwired into the car. It's a pretty simple process and pretty much any car audio shop can do it. Just bring the hardwire cable that goes with your valentine and go to an audio shop. I did mine at bestbuy for like 25 bucks I think.. pretty cheap and was only in there for 30 mins. No problems at all

I custom installed my Valentine 1. I hid the flat cable provided with the unit behind the molding at the top of the windshield. Left a 12" piece out to the right of the rear view mirror. When not in use it hides behind the passenger side visor. From the top molding I ran it down behind the passenger side A pillar molding to the right side of the glove box. Plug the end into the lighter/accessory fused plug that comes with the unit and plug it in the glovebox. No wires are visible except the 12" pigtail at the mirror when in use. I use the visor clip provided with the V-1 to mount the unit just to the left of the rear view mirror on the visor. Pull the visor down about 3/8" of an inch so it is level and can "see" fore and aft with it's antennas. Tool needed to start pushing the wire behind the moldings is a popsicle stick or the back of a pocket comb. There is an airbag in the A pillar but you are barely inserting the wire under the edge of the molding. This process should take 10-15 minutes to accomplish. Good luck. It is easy, all of the things needed came with the V-1 except for the popsicle stick.

To the both of you that have them wired in, I've been looking at getting one (escort most likely) but worry about it and distronic? Are there any problems with the signals from distronic interfering with the radar detector?

I purchased something called add a fuse. you go into the fuse box, place this fuse in it, which has two fuse holders, one is for the fuse that belongs there (switched or unswitched - i used the lighter fuse) and the other fuse is for your detector, there is a wife attached to it that you connect the hardwire from the detector to., run the wire under and over dash behind windshield.. but i have an escort that is dash not visor.

I am not qualified to comment on the Distronic relationship to a radar detector as I do not have that option. Did you try a search on the forum? There was a long thread some time ago on radar detectors.

I am familiar with the fuse clips. Can you buy a visor clip for your detector?

I also cannot say for cars with Distronic as I do not have that option either. I'm not sure if a search on the forum will help as most cars do not have it either. However, I did have a problem with my lane tracking radar on the sides of the car. It suddenly stopped working one day, on the dashboard it just says Lane tracking assist error. It worked after a few days again for some reason, but since I was going to take my car in for the first service, I had them look at what was wrong. Turned out that there was some sort of interference with the radar sensors on the side of the car and they said that it was prob my escort radar detector. I wasn't very convinced as it never happened before nor after that time. Just my two cents here.. not sure if it helps .

i have distronic and i run my escort on a winshield mount directly in the middle of the windshield. so basically the escort is directly behind the distronic sensor. NO ISSUES. now if im real close to a truck at a stop light or parked nose in, in front of the garage door, i get some K band radar blips on my escort. the escort is probably picking a bounce of the distronic off of the solid object in front of the car. but no issues at all.

my lane tracking AND distronic gives me errors and disengages if the roads are really slushy. obviously when i got out of the car, the distronic and lane tracking sensors were covered in ice. also i think the car was having trouble reading lines in the roadway because they were also covered in ice. this is to be expected. one nice feature would be a wash or warming feature for the distronic sensor. but i guess its such a minor issue MB didnt think it was necessary. hope this helps.
