Do I really need to buy 4 new tires???
Hello
I am at NTB to get tire leaked checked out. Turns out there was a nail in the side wall so they couldn't repair. They then said because I have 4matic that I'll need to replace all the tires bc there would be too much difference in tire wear between the new tire and the older ones and that would cause problems for my tranny later on.
Is that true?

I have had a vehicle sensitive to any more than 2/32 difference on the same axle. Lots of variables to think of. How much tread is on now and whether you need to drive through winter snow (recommend 5/32"). =Usually value deals when buying 4 tires instead of 1 or 2. Replace as a pair if difference is more than 2/32 but will rotations must be front to back only, will you remember? New tire tread depth is usually 10/32 or 11/32.
Ok cool. As long as they weren't bullshietting me. Tires on the car were 6/32 but one was 8/32.i guess mb replaced one tire before I bought it cpo.
So I would have had two 6/32 tread tires, one 8/32,and one brand new
I ended up getting all 4 new. Sumitomo lsw's for 700. I know it's not the greatest price but I did some haggling and he knocked off 80$ and installation fees to 'match' online prices.

E350 4Matic 2011
The other way to go (that I have heard off) is to get the tire retailer to shave down the new tire to match your existing ones. This saves you the cost of buying three other tires.

Tires
I had to replace 1 tire on my 2012 E550 4matic at 20,000 miles and have had no issues. It was replaced at the dealer and they made no mention of replacing all 4 tires.
