How much to offer for 2010 E550 at dealer

Greetings!
I'm getting ready to upgrade my 2003 W211 to a 2010 W212 and dealer is asking $36,900. How much should I offer without insulting the salesman?

Thank you!,

Only MBs - the best or nothing
This is a great price (depending on condition and mileage) and is a steal if car is a CPO(is it? is dealer authorized MB?). My local dealer sells '10 E350 CPOs with 20-27K miles for that.

First off, don't worry about insulting the salesman, I'm sure he has heard much worse.

We need more info to give you advice. What major options does the car have, how many miles and is it CPO? Sold by a MB dealer?

Is it a color you like? Does it have the options you want? What condition is it in? Any bodywork?

Only with those answers can we guide you in the right direction.

that's nice of you to consider the dealers feeling......guess you guys down in Texas are more respectful than others
but I agree with CEB: his/her feelings should be the last thing considered....

If it is the silver one with 43,000 miles it is a CPO and fairly well equipped with pano roof and multicontour seat. The fact that the price ends with a "3" at this dealer means it has been in inventory for awhile. A "4" means it is about to go the auction. I would offer them $34,500 for it, but anything less than $36,000 doesn't seem like a bad deal to me.

I say go for the jugular if your sure it has been there for a while. Offer $32.5 and move up to $34 if the through in the extended warranty for an additional 2 years. Be ready to walk if they don't come down and wait for the call. Make it known before you leave that you are ready to stroke the check at your price...oh and make that statement to the sales mgr or GM. Your sales guy is nothing but a messenger.

You guys are awesome, thanks for your great advice!
This is a well appointed car:

Silver, pano roof, dynamic seats, rear shade, navigation, Harmann Kardon, and it's CPO with 44K miles.

Sounds like a great deal

I'd also consider what the car is due for service wise at the 44 mark.......
but I agree with Point: and go for the JUG, you could even take in a bank check for the amount you're willing to settle for to show them you're serious....
I've done that a couple of times to my advantage

good luck!

Unless the salesperson is female - then go for the jugs...

I didn't say that.

Point and hype are spot on. Offer low, the salesperson will say " if I bring this offer to my manager then he'll have a coronary" (get the movie "Used Cars" from Netflix - the tactics haven't changed much since the movie was made).

If they think you are serious, have had the car for a while and are still making money on it (they probably paid around 30 at auction) then they'll counter your 32 and agree on 33 or 34.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Here is the info what dealer would pay at auction for that kind of car. Hope it helps.

I would also ask for both the service and maintenance histories if the car was serviced at any MB dealer, it will be available to them on-line. If the service is up-to-date, then you offer is very reasonable.

Remember the only time in life to lie/cheat/steal ... is in dealing with car dealers.

Since its CPO it should have all the maintenance items brought up to date. at 44k miles it likely already has the expensive 40k service done. Probably some new tires and brakes as well since 40k is about as long as they typically last.

if you can get it for $32k-$34k that'll be a great price, and ask them to throw in another 2 year extended warranty.

i think the asking is actually very good and like what threembs said, that is more like the asking for a e350. but that doesn't mean you can't ask for lower. i'll start with $30k just because it's been sitting there for so long.

I found this to an interesting little tidbit......anyone here know if this is something most dealers use to quickly identify old(er) inventory, or is it just this one dealership?

I would also be certain that the 40k service included the transmission service. This service is several hundred beyond the normal B service at 40k. May not have been done if car not 48 mos old.

This is an Autonation dealership and a friend of mine that works there told me that it is a policy of all their dealerships. I suspect other dealerships may do something similar but I am not aware of the particulars.

FYI, I just posted this earlier.

"Unfortunately I could not open your links on the prior thread you posted but here is the deal I made. 2010 E550 with 45K miles. P2 package Sport with pretty much every option including night assist, but lacking pano roof. first 2 payments paid for by MB on the CPO program with 1.72% financing on an agreed price of 32.5K. As always, mileage has a LOT do do with pricing. Hope this helps."

Stale-bread what area are you in?

Im looking to buy a CPO 2010 e550 4matic with 30k miles p2 and pano roof. They are asking just under $43k.

Wondering what would be a fair deal.

Thanks for that info. I definitely will not pay asking. I just don't want to get kicked out of the dealership when I offer around 35K for it.

I just got mine back in April:

2010 E550
27k miles
CPO
Has everything except Night Vision
Steel Gray and Natural Beige
Asking $47,895

Paid $40,000 even and they covered my first two payments

At 36k that sounds like a great deal.
