My first diesel
Just bought a 2011 E350 Bluetec yesterday and I must say that I love it so far!! Never owned a diesel before and its taking some getting used to, but so far I love it, especially the gas mileage. Just driving home from the dealer I got 30mpg in stop and go traffic.
They were asking $43,991 and I got them down to $41,500. Its got the P1 package and the extras were the folding rear seats and burl walnut steering wheel. It has 17,200 miles on it. They are going to tint the windows for me and update the navigation all for free.
The only thing that I hate are those Bridgestone Turenza run flat tires! They are terrible. I tried to get the dealer to swap them out for regular tires, but he said that they could not do that. I am going to have to get 4 new tires ASAP.

I hate to tell you but I think you paid way too much for it. You should have got it for around $35000. But it is a good car thought...you will love the diesel, it will last longer than you would ever think.
The reason you have the run flats is that there is no spare tire in your car. In the space for the spare tire in the bottom of the trunk there is that "urinal" add blue tank. For this reason the car maker made the car with the run flat tires as they could not take the risk of stranding someone on the road without the spare tire.

I really don't think that value is accurate. Both Kelley and NADA call the car worth between $37,000-$38,000 trade value with that equipment and mileage. Black Book has the car around $37,000 extra clean. If the car is Certified and assuming it appears as it should on the lot, $41,500 is not out of line.

Hummer, E350 Bluetec
I paid 44,400 for a 2011 P2 DAP Bluetec last year with 16,800mi last October. it wasn't certified as I stole it from a Ford Dealership. I say hold out for the DAP no doubt. Without the tech pkg, it's just a European Taxi.

Once you get familiar with "driving the torque" almost all gas engines will feel weak to you. I have only had one gasoline car in the past 15 years, and I only kept it a year and got another diesel. While the V8s and V6s are actually faster if you are running for 0-60 times or 1/4 mile times, most of us do not drive like that on a daily basis. Pay attention on any given day to how many times you actually run your car up to redline. The diesel engine is ideally suited to the American/US style of driving. Big torque down low and enough power to keep it strong through 4K rpms. I rarely hit 4k rpms in my daily driving. The diesels feel like old low revving big block V8s. You will be hooked.

Getting those horrible run flat tires taken off and regular tires put on at my expense of course, but its worth it to me. I cant wait to get those tires off of my car!!

Dealers buy these cars for about 31 to 33 (a little more if it has P2) from MB right after customers drop them off for return.
Max should have been 36k +ttl for it.
These bluetecs new were being discounted about 11k, I know this because I got the 2012 e bluetec. 60k msrp car for 49k. Most people are not aware of how much discount new ones go for and hence compare msrp price of new one to used and think they are getting an awesome deal.

Auction price for this kind of car is from $35K to $38K depending on a mileage and options. Forget what dealer pays for that. You will never get this car at dealer's price. You always can do better, but $41K for CPO car is OK price.
Enjoy your car and don't listen to anybody.

Thanks. I am already enjoying it and if you asked me, it was worth the $41,500. Sure I may have paid a little too much, but thats ok. Its a CPO and I have the peace of mind of everything being covered under warranty until 2016. Thats worth the extra cost to me.

Just to give you an idea, I turned in my '12 bluetec P2 with 28k miles. it had a really high residual. It was listed as CPO in 2 days for 41.5k and was sold the next day!
Clean carfax, prepaid maintenance and car in mint condition. This was in April.

You guys are very strange. Why does everybody want to put his nose in someone else's business ? OP does not ask you if the price is ok or not. He BOUGHT IT ALREADY and enjoys the car. May be he has so much money, that he does not care about price and just wants to get exactly the car he got.
Stop pissing off somebody's happy day and take care of your own money.

That's why I'm planning for my next ride to be a diesel. I drive so little that the gas mileage is a nit but the power characteristics of today's diesels appeal to me . Also, the move to DI gas engines does not look good (generalization). One thing that has me worried though is I've read that constant short trips with a diesel is far more harmful than with a gas engine.

Right,
A P2 vehicle. This price is correct for a 2012 butt too much for a 2011 P1 that the OP bought. But as he says he enjoys it and that is what really matters. I paid way too much for my first Benz too but I did not let it bother me.

Its all good guys. Maybe I did pay too much, but its exactly the car I was looking for and the color combination that I was looking for and that is hard to find in a Bluetec, so I snapped it up.
It had only been on the lot for 3 days and probably would not have been there too much longer. I'm happy with it so nobody is going to burst my bubble anyway

The price is fine for a 2011 CPO with 17k miles. I don't think everyone making comments looked at the miles. The E350s (non-diesel) at my local dealer are all in the $43k range with 19k-21k miles. Each 1000miles should take $300 off the price.
As you get to drive it more you will like it more, IMHO. In normal street driving, the power curve of the diesel matches real world much better than an gasoline engine. In the range of 1500-3500rpm, where most people drive, it has better power. On the highway and in other low power situations, it is much more efficient.
Most spark ignition engines, especially normally aspirated ones, produce their power close to their maximum engine speed. Few people are foot flat to the floor at 6500rpm on the street. However, the diesel put the power where you actually drive.
On another note, I think you have runflat tires. If so, you might want to peruse the various threads on that subject. There are more threads on that subject on the BMW forums where runflat have been standard on all models for years.

Then you made a good purchase. When everything is right the money is secondary It's ALWAYS better to feel good about what you bought rather than how much you paid for it. You don't drive money.
