Insurance on a 2014 E 350 4matic
Hi all - I'm in process of leasing a 2014 E350 Sport 4matic. Does anyone have any tips / advice on driving for the best rate on insurance for this car?
It has been seven years since I last had a car, so I'm a bit rusty on the ins / outs on saving money on these types of things. Obviously rates are determined by personal background, etc, but I'm a bit surprised at the quotes I've received ($1200 for 6 months). I'm over 30, spotless driving record, and will be living in Massachusetts.
Grateful for any tips.
Thank you very much.

Take the VIN for a spin on your telephone with identical coverage. Call or Internet all the companies you can and see what comes back. Also, you can save even more with bundling your policies with one company, and also see if you're in a part of the country that allows the nanny device-based costs that are based upon your actual driving.

Progressive
Clean driving record
20s
Been driving for 10+ years
$530 / 6 months
..... I think the 7 year gap might be causing your rates to be this high.

Location Location Location. Rates will vary a lot depending on where you live. Even different neighborhoods within the same city can have very different rates.
As far as how the E350 compares to other vehicles to insure, I went from a 2004 Acura TL (with full coverage) to a 2012 E350 and my six month premium went up by less than $30.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. Very helpful to hear your perspective.
I'll be living in Boston, so maybe that area has especially higher rates with a new high-end vehicle.
I've been able to get a quote of $1600 for a full year at State Farm - everyone else was in the $2400 range. Same coverage, etc. Still high, but obviously more economical.
One insurer mentioned that it was an issue that I haven't had an auto policy for over 7 years. I've had a license and drove friends' cars with no tickets / accidents, but just never needed a car living in NYC.
Thank you again!

When I moved to MA in the mid-'90's, I lived in Cambridge for a while - on-street parking on Magazine street. My insurance rates plummeted (more than 50%) when I moved to Milford even though my annual miles driven went up dramatically.
Insurance rates can vary by 20% or more depending on where you "garage" your car. Off street parking is better than on-street and a garage is better than off-street.
A few guidelines to consider.
There are two parts to a policy, comprehensive (things not your fault like deer hits, vandalism, fire and theft and so forth) and collision (things you could avoid - like running into other things.) Each has its own deductible.
A lower deductible on comprehensive is fairly cheap while you should raise your collision deductible to what you can afford. Me, in MD, I have $50 deductible for comp and $1000k for collision. Since glass in MD is covered under comp, a glass chip won't ruin my day and the $50 deductible costs about $26 more every 6 months than a $1000 deductible. If I hit something then the $1k deductible is another reminder to be more careful. Going to a $100 deductible for collision would triple my current rates.
Make sure that they know where you will park and how many miles you expect to drive - don't try to cheat here because it will come back to haunt you.
See if the company with whom you were last insured sells insurance - or has a partner - in MA. Right now, with a multi year lapse you are probably considered a "new driver" in MA.
Somebody telling you what they pay means nothing - you aren't them and you aren't living in their house.
