Did I overpay...?
I really should not be thinking about this now... after 3 months.. Recently a local car dealer mentioned that my vehicle was going for approx. 29k at the auction.
Here are the stats when purchased:
2010 e350 RWD
24,632 miles, excellent condition
Arctic White with Pano and P2, navi, amg sport,
Almond beige mb tex with black headliner and floor
no accidents, one owner
not certified
all maintenance up to date
brand new hankook v12 tires
new mb brakes
out the door price $40,679
I felt like it was well worth it... however i'd like everyones honest opinion.

Auction price is what the dealers would pay..... Have you run your car through kbb.com? And never discount the ability for the salesman to be totally full of $h1t!

I hate to say it but you seemed to. Some brand new E350's have been going for just 15-18% more than that, after dramatic price drops and incentives. However you did get a loaded model and it seems to be a great setup (identical to my first W212), so that helps.
Just think of it this way, if the car is everything you wanted, then you paid top dollar for a top car. Treat it as such and the longer you have and drive it the less impact that price you paid will have on you (i.e you won't get hit again when you resell it).

Water under the bridge in any case but I'm not sure that I believe that an east coast dealer would be paying $29k for a P2/pano car with relatively low miles. I'd be thinking low 30's by the time he has it on his lot and checked over. Add profit (remember that dealers make a much higher profit of used cars - wayyyyy higher) and taxes, tags and all that stuff and you're in the ballpark.
Enjoy your car. The dealer is an idiot and I'd go to a different one just out of principle.
And what is wrong with all of you that voted "Yes" on his poll? It isn't as if he was taken to the cleaners even if his car went for $29k at auction. It is a done deal and how you respond goes far towards how much the OP enjoys his car. It is almost as if you guys get some sort of greedy pleasure out of sticking a knife in him and twisting it.
He got a very nicely equipped car at an OK price - remember that he is in CT so that bumps up pricing too. OTOH, I don't know why people post these questions in the first place. No matter what we say he'll feel bad.

Based on prices in my area, you may have paid a bit more. Where you are is a more expensive demographic. For your area, it may be totally reasonable. Keep these things in mind:
1) You felt good when you bought it.
2) It is a great car.
3) you are enjoying your ownership experience
4) It is just a car
5) It will most likely not be the last car you will buy
6) Three months ago, the market was not waiting on the next model year to arrive in a month. Prices were probably higher then.
7) You look damn good in the vehicle, and, how do you put a price on that?

Enjoy the ride, the looks and the safety. These are awesomely safe cars (having been saved from an accident by mine) and your peace-of-mind is priceless.

i was recently shopping for cpo 2010s in socal, and i came upon one pretty similar to yours except for no pano roof and 19k miles and i was able to get it down to 37000 out the door, but socal tends to have a lot of e350s for sale so dealers are prob more competitive.

The main issue here is how much MB gives away new E's for little to nothing, which makes for wild used market prices as it's hard to tell what's a "good deal".
I just got an email for a 2014 E350 for $450 a month, $3,300 drive off. 10k miles a year, 36 month lease. That's a ridiculous price and I at least thought MB would wait awhile before blowing the 14's out the door. With prices like that, what are people supposed to assume are good deals on 4 year old models?

My honest opinion is that you did over pay a bit but not that much. I over paid a lot when I bought mine but I got what I wanted.
My experience: Bought a 2011 E350 in Sep. 2010. P2 with pano roof. Sticker was about $60 000, I paid $57 000. The next day the owner of the dealership called and thanked me and told me they made $2600 profit on the brand new car. Now who over paid here? I think this qualifies me to be the over pay king!
I drove it for 15 months and put 29 000 miles on it. I wanted a car with Distronic and those almost all are E550 models. Found a 2010 CPO with 14700 miles on the clock. Paid another $9000 between the cars so in total I paid $66 000 for the two cars. I think I over paid again but I got what I wanted and love every second when I drive it. I have had this one for almost 19 months now and have driven 39000 miles on it. (53500 miles on the clock).
The main thing is if you have what you wanted. That is the most important thing and if you paid well you can perhaps get a better treatment from the dealer.
Enjoy it!

I have no idea why he called me and told me the info but he did. Guess they had a party on the money I gave them and he was down a few long necks before he called....

I appreciate the feedback fellas... I absolutely enjoy driving the car, the arctic white with pano roof and sports package makes for a great combo! Having the car tinted tomorrow morning with 3M film (probably 35%), hope that keeps the heat out and makes the car look even better.. I'll post pictures when its done.

To each his own, we ALL overpay no matter what deal we get. The dealers ALWAYS make money on these cars, even those great deals K-A gets, the dealer is STILL making a profit some how some way, whether it's a loss leader or not, end of the month/quarter/year bonus if they sell that one more car. Bottom line, if it's the best deal you can get on your own than that's a good deal. Some people can get better deals than others and if you think about it you will always be shooting yourself in the foot. At the end of the day I GUARANTEE you someone else will have gotten a better deal than you.
