Crack in LED running light
Hey all
I have a 2013 E350, just over 6 months old. Last week I was on a state highway, that turned to deep loose gravel with no warning until you arrived at the point, and no speed enforcement, so trucks were flying in the oncoming lane at 40+ showering gravel at the other vehicles. I got a little stone chip, and more annoyingly, a big crack in the drivers side LED light. Can the lens alone be replaced, or is the whole thing one unit? What does this cost?

Yikes, thanks for the link , looks like I will be filing a claim. It's just a crack, but I am sure they'd ding me for it if I don't keep the car at the end of the lease. Fun times.

Thanks for that. I got a quote from the dealer to send in for my claim - dealer part price (305+tax) + an hour of labor + taxes and fees came to almost $500 exactly.

But if you claim it thru insurance then it is what it is but I would guess your deductible is close to that.
if you are at all a hands on person you can change the light yourself.
I have a 2010 model and somehow my passenger side led DRL was kicked in. I put my car on the ramps i have and fixed it myself. Had to take couple of the plastic fasteners off of the fender and engine bottom liners for access but it was quite easy job to do. A dealer does this in 15 min max.

I think their rate is $155/hr. No doubt not something that actually takes much less than an hour. I wonder how they billed out the eon spent trying to cure my rear deck creaking.
I'm actually filing a claim with the state, as the light broke due to some negligently planned road works - a road covered with a couple inches of loose dusty gravel for no apparent reason, and oncoming traffic flying by at speed, zero speed enforcement, trucks showering stopped cars with rocks. I tried driving on the shoulder, but there was so much gravel I'd start sliding. I pity any motorcyclists who got stuck in it. When I called the claims person and told them when and where it happened, first thing they said was "were you hit by rocks?" - so I assume others have done likewise. Good enough for government work.

Pretty high hourly rate at your dealer when the part with tax is at around $330 but the total with installation that they claim is one hour job brings the total to $500...
But if you claim it thru insurance then it is what it is but I would guess your deductible is close to that.

Actually, your comprehensive insurance will cover this repair as long as the object that struck your vehicle was airborne at the time it struck you. Not sure what your comprehensive deductible is, but it may be a good route for you to explore. For me, my comprehensive is only a $50 deductible. Comprehensive premiums are very low for low deductibles. You may wish to inquire with your Insurance agent to see if you can get the comprehensive deductible lower on your policy.

Right now my comprehensive deductible is $500, which is virtually identical to the repair cost. I don't know if my insurer would accept me lowering the deductible and filing a claim 2 days later 
I am still pretty irritated by the conditions which caused it, I will pursue the offending people before I take other action. It was literally the worst road I've ever driven on.
