2014 E350 DIY 7. Micro-Mod - Umbrella Holder
Installed an Umbrella Holder today to keep my umbrella from rolling around the trunk. Took a bit longer than I thought going in due to the awkwardness in reaching under the trunk liner.

1. Remove the four fasteners from the bottom of the trunk liner. These are push-in fasteners that can be pried out carefully. I was able to remove two successfully, but had to drive to the dealer for two replacements
2. Place the holders where you want them to be and mark the five holes each. I chose to put mine as low as possible to make the reach for the umbrella as easy as possible. Also, make sure they are level with each other.
3. Punch a hole through the liner with an awl or similar tool. No drilling necessary.
4. Push each holder through the five holes and make sure each post comes through as far as possible.
5. Reach under the trunk liner and push the small lock washers (supplied) onto each post. I also used a larger washer to push the washers on as far as possible.
6. Replace the four fasteners and hang the umbrella. That's it.

Very nice mod , I like your mm stuffs (micro mods ) as well
I used to carry my umbrella just between trunk liner and trunk mat , being a high wall trunk mat it held it tight w/o needing extra holder .My umbrella now is resting in my room lol
I think this mod won't work well with me because my umbrella that I do use in the car barely as half size as yours lol

Great job man!
I recently saw a Maybach with the trunk lid open and saw how MB had umbrella hangers built in for those guys and decided my E350 needed those too! Thanks for the pics and inspiration!

Neat mod. My only concern is how the added weight of the umbrella and mounts affects the auto open and close of the trunk lid (if at all).
I know the trunk auto open would not work if I did this to my older C-Class.

Nice necro bump. I prefer to keep the umbrella in the back seat area where I can grab it and deploy as I get out rather than walk around to the trunk in a deluge and get soaking wet. But, it does look cute hanging in the trunk, all nice and tidy.

Like the way it looks but I am with Key08 and long3494qut. I use the rear seat for mine or if alone the passenger foot area

Out of curiosity, does the C class also have the variable trunk spring hooks so that you can adjust the spring power of it opening? I don't have a C or personally know anyone who does.. I actually had to adjust mine to open slower/softer since it previously opened like a gymnast spring board launcher when you pressed the key fob button. I think this also had to do with the tail light wires breaking.

To open, the W212 seems to have the same mechanically actuated springs, as the trunk lid "pops" open just like the C. Of course, the closing mechanism has a motor (no closing system on the W203). I guess I could go look.

Yes, the C-Class (at least in the W203) had the multiple trunk spring holes, and you could move the springs to the pair of holes where the trunk lid performed the best.

Like I had made reference earlier, if you were standing in front of the trunk and pressed the FOB button, the trunk would almost hit you in the face. And same for closing it- if your fingers slipped off before it was closed or throwing it down it didn't catch, you'd better be on the look out because its coming right back at you. I found a happy medium between just popping and opening 3 inches and a catapult.
