Brake wear sensors detect pad wear - they are typically installed on the front pads only.

Pad wear sensors are installed on front and rear but only one on each axle. If I remember correctly in my car the sensors are on the right side. There also are wiring for the sensors on the other side but the sensors are not used there.

Hmm, seems kinda arrogant to not put sensors on both sides, as one cannot always guarantee even reasonably consistent wear on both sides with breaks

I was thinking to add sensors on the left side but my pads wear really ecenly so I thought it does not need them.

I live in south summer conditions around the year so my wheels dont see spinning on slippery roads. In winter states pad wear could be a lot more uneven as slippery conditions cause the wheel spin that the brakes then control thru the ESP (called ESC in my car).

The sensors are cheap and very easy to add so if the conditions cause uneven pad wear adding the sensors on the left side is an easy and low cost way to make sure fast pad wear does not cause any surprises.
