E class options question.............

Hi Guys!

We are looking at a couple of CPO'd W212's and I'd like to know if there is a way to tell by looking at the car in a picture (or in person) if the car has either Premium 2 or HID/Xenon lighting.

As we (my wife and I) get older, we've found that good lighting is pretty important. The fact that a car in this price range doesn't come with HID lighting is Crazy to me. I get that it's about profit margin but, for me personally, just put HID lights (and fold down rear seats, so I can use it to haul something) and charge me accordingly.

Just my thoughts and also Thanks in advance for any info that you'd be willing to share.

From outside the car it is difficult to say. I quess looking close you could probably see the difference in the head lights between the Halogen and HID lights as the HID lughts also turn at curves based on steering wheel input. It might be possible to see difference in this.

But, the HID lights come with the Premium 2 package, which also includes (or at least did include in 2010-1012 models) the KEYLESS-GO option. This can be seen by looking inside the car at the ingnition key location. If it is a KEYLESS-GO there is a big round Start/Stop button instead of a key hole. Cars with this have an almost 100% chance to have the HID lights.

Folding seats you can probably recognize looking at the rear set back as it has a split in it, i.e. it folds in two pieces.

If you want to research used MB cars the best place to do it at the MBUSA net site. I highly recommend buying one of these cars from a MB dealer and as a CPO car. It is the safest way to do it.

You can go to MBUSA site and click on "Certified Pre Owned" and then "Search Inventory". Here you can set car model, year model, price, mileage and distance from the zip code where you are located. You can search the whole country when you leave the distance to "Any distance". In this site you can probably see 95% of all used MB cars that are listed at MB dealers.

I used the site and found my "Dream car" 1000 miles away and went and bought it. Distance is nothing on a purchase like this for me.

Happy hunting.

If the bumper right under the headlight has a little square section cutout then it has the P2/HID option. That little square section is the pop out headlight cleaner spray nozzle which comes with the P2/HID option.

There is also one little square cutout near the grill, that's for the tow hook. so look for two squares one by each headlight to ensure the car has P2/HID

I agree its silly to not have HID's as standard in a car of this price range. I too would've gladly paid a slightly higher price to have that included in the standard equipment group.

P2 Package cars have Chrome on the top of the Door handles.
P2 car's turn indicators in the headlights look almost full yellow Vs White with a visible orange bulb on P1 cars.
As someone has mentioned already, look for the square cut outs for the headlight washers for a P2 car.
Any car with Quad fog lights is a P1 only car and does not have Xenon.

Hmm... seems to me the "hockey stick" LEDs were only on sport models in 2011 with straight LEDs on luxury models. Did that change in 2012?

Yes, I believe Hockey sticks were gone in 2012.
2010: All P2 cars has Hockey sticks
2011: Sport has Hockey, Lux had Straight
2012: All had straight
There were some overlaps between years so you will see exceptions to these rules depending on when they were built and what model year they were given.
