2014 E350 Wagon
DIY: Sunglass holder

I did my first "mod" on the wagon. It has 400 miles so I thought it was time to add a bit of personal flare by installing the sunglass holder and removing the grip handle from the driver side.

The part number for the Sunglass holder is: A2048100041 plus the color code which will be different depending on your headliner color. Mine is black so I got it from eBay over here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400308918626 (The part is the same part number for the W204 C-class as it is for the E-class so it doesn't matter)

He also sells it in beige: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400293459529

Part number and color codes:

You might be able to order it from your local dealer, I haven't checked.

To remove the handle you need to pry out the two plastic pins from the grab handle using a screwdriver. Just push it in there as far as you can and rotate it around to pull the pin up.

Repeat for the other pin. If you break the pin or mess it up you can order a replacement from your dealer for less than $2, part number is A2048150114 plus the color code to match your vehicle.

Once the pins are out you have to pull on the handle pretty hard to get it out. Then shove the clips of the sunglass holder in its place, push in the pins and enjoy your new sunglass holder.

It is very similar to the one I had installed on my BMW but instead of foam it has rubber padding on the inside and it has a spring retainer to keep it in the open position without requiring force which is a nice touch. The BMW handles used Torx screws instead of plastic clips which was a better setup in my opinion but this one gets the job done too.

WOW, i didnt even realize this existed. Nice as i just bought a pair of Maui's and currently store them in the glove box. Will be picking this up. Thanks for the write up. HOw is the padding inside the holder?

Any one know if there are compartments that can be installed into the armrest storage so its not just one big open space?

Wouldn't it be easier to keep your sunglasses in the compartment under your seat instead of the glove box? Also the holder is quite small. Not really meant for larger stylish sunglasses of today. More-so for eyeglasses..Just an FYI.

And nice write up GregTR!

I completely forgot about the compartment under the seat. But stale-bread is correct. It fits my Maui Jim rimless metal but It would not fit my MJ Sport rimless plastic ones which is a bit bigger. I liked the spot and the utility in my BMW as well as in my Passat (also installed by me) so I'm just used to having my sunglasses there.

The lining is semi-soft rubber that gets the job done.

that area is for my wallet lol
and I hate storing anything in the arm rest compartment as it always feels as if I am fishing for what's needed.

I just leave mine on the dash, on the ledge in front of the Command screen. Leave the temples (that's what they call the arms that hang over your ears) open/unfolded. My lenses don't actually touch the Command screen, the glasses stay put, and are instantly accessible.

Long term storage, which isn't often, they get cased and go in the compartment below the seat.

Cool job putting that holder in place of the grip though.

Yeah, that one looks like it should fit. The limiting factor is the folded depth of the glasses so sport style sunglases with curved full lenses and curved arms don't fold flat enough to fit but that one looks like it folds up flat enough to get in there.

Cheaper than parts.com and comes with full warranty as it's from a Mercedes dealer.

Guys, I got this on my car it replaces the door handle on the ceilings. It fits on all four handles.

You will not be able to order this from the dealers at ALL. I tried to and they told me its not offered in the US and they can't even special order it unless you know a VIN of a car that has that as an option.

What someone else suggested was call MB Vancouver in Canada and they will order it for you. It was like 30 bucks I think? I did this too and it came in a week.

But yes there is ebay and other online vendors that can be looked into if you are not comfortable with giving credit card information over the phone.

NOTE: These do not fit bigger sunglasses. They only fit normal sized eye glasses. If you want to fit sunglasses in these do NOT get it.

Actually I was thinking about the ones that are in the roof center (where all the buttons are on E Class). Your mounting position may not be quite as hot, but still pretty close to the metal roof of the car.

One of our cars, a 2010 Subaru, has the sunglass holder at the center of the roof are cooler than those in Texas but Oregon summers where we live are cooler than those in much of Texas. Perhaps vehicles differ also in the amount of thermal insulation between eyeglass holders and the metal roof.

Can you please give more detailed info on how you "pulled on the handle" to get it out. I removed both clips and i'm trying to figure out how to remove the handle. I pulled on it with my full weight and it isn't moving at all. I noticed that the sunglass holder has tips that will clip inside so I assume we need to find a way to release the inner clips of the handle?
