2014 E350 DIY 5. Micro-Mod - Eyeglass Rack
Today's installment of the Mini-Mod series continues with the simple installation of the eyeglass holder.
From my previous post, "Assistance Needed from Canada", https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ed-canada.html I contacted MB of Vancouver and ordered Part #2048100041-9051 in black from Kayan Lee (604-736-3179).
Part arrived to her on Thursday 08/22/13 and she shipped it DHL directly to me in California overnight. Cost for the part is listed as $30.95CDN with $7.32CDN for shipping on the invoice. Cost a bit less in US Dollars.
Installation Steps:
1. Unboxed the "Rack" as the box says (Pix #1/#2)
2. Pull down the existing handle to expose the Clip holes (Pix #3/#4)
3. Release the two clips holding the US handle in place by prying out the clips (Pix #5/#6)
4. Pull down and out on the handle and it will easily pop out of the roof (Pix #7/#8)
5. Push in the new eyeglass rack into the same holes (Pix #9)
6. Push in the two retaining clips (Pix #10)
7. Enjoy (Pix #11/#12)
Now, anyone need/want a driver's side handle :-)

Thank you very much for this thread. Just called the MB dealer and ordered the same item, much better than order from someone I don't know on Ebay.
Ordered from a parts guy named Jeffrey who knows Kayan Lee.
Thanks again, tired of not having a real home for my sunglasses.

Just ordered the part from my dealership. They confirmed its not in stock at any dealership in Canada so will have to order it from Germany. $32 and 14 days.

Good job on the mod!! Still thinking about this as I'm currently using the compartment under the seat for that purpose. My 3 sunglasses fit easily there.

Is there a trick to pop the handle out of the roof?
I am trying to install the eyeglass reck on my 2013 E350 Coupe.
I am not able to get the handle to "easily" pop out of the roof (Pix #7/#8). Is there something else that I need to do to get the handle out?
I would appreciate any help with this problem.
Thank you.

As you can see in attachments handles are mounted the same as 212. Try carefully using a plastic wedge to dislodge.

There is a small rectangle opening at the top of the handle mounting points. You see these openings when you turn the handle down. You use a flat screw driver in these openings to pry the center piece off of the mounting points. These center pieces are like "wedges" that force the mounting plug wide inside the roof. Without removing the center pieces the handle will not come out.
After the center pieces are removed handle comes out very easily.
Mounting of the eyeglass case is exactly the same way so look at its mounting plugs so you know what I'm talking about.
