New miles?
I've got a question for everyone while I wait on our new E350 to arrive.
How many miles should be (or is acceptable) on a NEW car that YOU specifically order and receive? In other words how many miles does it take to get a car to a dealership, prepped to sale, and then to the customer.
I have bought many new cars before (never ordered one since I always bought from the dealers lot) and they have ranged from 8 miles to about 115 miles new (the 115 was because the dealer drove the car from another dealership to me).
Just curious because I have this feeling that our car is going to arrive soon, sit at the dealership, and it will be a week before I can get to it to take delivery. Then other "yahoos" will see it on the lot and want to test drive it. Trust me I know because I did it unknowingly to someones new car awhile back.
Thanks!

I think mine had 11 on it. My BMW had 7. Anything under 40 is acceptable in my book. Dealer wrote 25 miles on the odometer disclosure without actually verifying so I think that is what they considered "normal".

Oh, and don't worry, you car can be raped well before it even arrives to the dealer: http://jalopnik.com/meet-the-amateur...ew-b-513809077

Mine was 7-12 I think. It will be very low, I am sure they have a standard for new cars...
One downside is if its out front many gawkers might try and open the door/put their hands on it peek in before you take delivery.

These things are consumables, it won't be new forever. What difference does it make if the car has 8 miles on it or 150 miles? The car will last longer than you will keep it.
On a side note, there is a dealer in the Los Angeles area that has quite a few "new" cars with only 8 miles on the odometer with the gas light on. I test drove one of them and saw the gas light, asked the sales associate if we should get some gas, and he said don't worry there's enough to get around.
I thought all new cars come with at least 1/4 tank of gas. Apparently this dealer must be siphoning the gas or something LOL.
Anyone have any insight on why a brand new car would have the gas light on with only 8 miles on the car? I would be more concerned about that!

My car was delivered with 7 miles on odo. Some dealers will trade cars for cheap and send drivers between dealers. (where we see infamous youtube video with guys racing BMW 1M)
I thought gas is added at port. No need to ship cars with little too much gas.
The lowest odo that I had was my rental 4Runner from National last year 2 miles on the clock. (Horray for Executive Selection)

Don't worry about it, the dealer will put your car into a specific section with a sold tag around the mirror, just like a Christmas tree.
They don't let others drive the cars, I have tried to drive a pre-sold car myself several times LOL!
Expect to see between 11 and 20 miles. Dealer does an inspection and preps it for delivery.
