Bracket in trunk
I looked in the trunk of my 2010 the other day and noticed a bracket at the top. Appears to be there to attach something. I know the 2014 has some kind of shelf in that area, but this appears to be for something else.
Anybody know what it is for?

In '14 they did away with the hook and force you to buy the "comfort box", a sliding retractable mesh box, to get similar convenience.

Mine has the hook, but this is a much larger bracket next to it. About 11 inches wide by 18 inches deep. Looks like it is designed for something to slide in and out. Maybe an earlier version of the "comfort box?"

There is a hunk of metal on the roof of my trunk on the passenger side, but there is no way this could be any kind of bracket. It's all wavy. Is that what you are talking about?

It's a very handy hook for hanging grocery bags, camera gear bags, etc. Presumably some cost accountants @ MB won an argument with the engineers to delete this useful feature along with the headlight washers from the 2014 models.

Yeah, yeah I have the hook. That is not what the OP is asking about.

The fold down bracket is centred on the trunk, when it's in the down position, it looks like a W. It is spring loaded, so when it is in the 'up' position, you would see a fabric tab for pulling down.

The 2014 models are so sporty who the heck owning one of these cars would transport any grocery bags in the trunk? No need for the hook, which by the way, for me is the best trunk organizer of everything else as an option. It is the best for keeping the grocery bags in order. And yes, I hate the "green stores" that don't have the bags with the handles.

No
Looks like a hanger to hold something that you could roll in and out. Trunk interior is grayish and this device is black and obviously bolted on. Located just to the right of the bag hook.
Sorry, can't take a picture.

without a photo this shall remain a mystery. My hunk of metal has what may appear to be runners also, but once again it is NOT straight. No rack could roll on this thing. I think you are delusional.

Incorrect, but not delusional
I would not call them wavy, but what I thought were "runners" are actually flat edges that curve out and then back in again - and not at same curvatures.
It is obviously meant for attaching something-maybe in Europe? Otherwise, why would MB add extra weight to the car when they go to great lengths to shave ozs., not to mention the cost of the thing? It is also quite sturdily constructed.

dude, c'mon. it's all about the trunk hook thingy. these crappy new models, man. i'll tell ya. i wish mercedes could somehow produce used cars from the factory, built to an earlier spec, with the paint pre-swirled and pre-faded, and the seats pre-farted on. that would be something.

How do you even get the headlamp washers to work anyways? I saw in the manual that you need to press the windshield washer 10 times?? Never really got it to work correctly..

The stupid thing is the lights have to be on in order for the headlamp washers to work. I kept pressing the windshield wiper button like a million times, then after about a gallon of windshield fluid on my car, i tried turning on the lights, and presto it worked.

No, this is a metal bracket that has what appear to be runners on either side. There also appears to be a "bumper" type device at the back on the support bar going across the top of the trunk.

RE: Headlamp washers - it just takes a quick tap of the stalk to register a count for the system to fire the headlamp washers off. You can fire them off without having to dump a whole bunch of washer fluid onto the windshield if needed.
They are going to be one thing I miss when I replace my C...

Ok, that's all nice to know but it seems no one has answered the original question: What is that black metal bracket in the trunk. The Convenience Box goes all the way across the trunk and requires a connection on both sides not just the passenger side. And the big question is why is the bracket pre-installed. That extra few pounds just in case something needs to be attached to it.

I would say it is the storage container. Mine has 2 brackets on the sides that lets the container slide back and forth. The storage container can be removed and that only leaves the brackets on the side. Send a picture and it should be easy to identify.
