NJ pot holes strike again !! bubble question
So three tires in three days... Saturday my wifes BMW had to replace 2 tires.. my new E350 now has a bubble. The question is how long can i drive on it safely ?
I don't want to replace it until the roads are fixed a bit more around here. Am I being foolish? Small bubble for now.
Glad the rim is fine...

Easy answer - you shouldn't drive on it any longer.
The bubble is a technical failure in the sidewall. Could last 20k miles or 50 feet before a complete failure.
If it was mine, I'd mount the spare, and get a replacement.
Better safe than sorry.

Agreed, replace asap. I lost all 4 of my wheels, yes all 4 on a bridge gap in Dec. needed a flat bed...driver who came could not believe the gap. I warned him, but he also hit it and spilled his coffee everyehere this time of year sucks in the northeast...good luck

Went to stealership at lunch to see if they could replace it.
They are SOLD OUT of tires for my car so apparently this is at an epidemic proportion....

Replace from Costco and get their road hazzard
If your wife's BMW has Goodyears then you might have free road hazzard coverage for 1st year.

Actually I have a set of Mercedes 17" winter wheels (without winter tyres) They are also part of the range for the car, I bought them cheap on EBay because winter road salts destroy the 18" AMG diamond cut wheels, plus the risk of the wheel being bent due to the number of potholes during the winter months. Once the spring comes I put the 18" wheels back on the car ..........
Plus 17" tyres are significantly cheaper than 18">>>>>>>

I'm the same as the raven. 17's in the winter in Boston. It's almost inevitable that at least one tire will take a beating. I put the 18's back on in spring / early April - weather permitting! Drove through Cambridge, MA today and it's like negotiating a mine field with all the pot holes and debris.

I feel your pain C230Brit. Ugh, Now I have minor rim scuffs on my right front and back rims due to a pot hole that was partially filled with sand here in Boston as well. 4 New AMG rims last may, now this. Not happy. Drive carefully.

I have 2 bubbles on one tire from a vicious pot hole today...going to replace the tire and submit to my local county for reimbursement
thinking about parking the Benz and drive my work truck 100% till the roads are fixed....

Your town will pay for this? That's pretty amazing. Here in Mass. they wont cover anything anymore including damaged windshields from streets under construction. They post signs that say "Use at your own risk" to cover their ***.

Stale-Bread - you'll have to get yourself some winter 'beater' rims - can't have the AMG's getting scuffed! I'm planning on getting my winter rim's refinished once the regular 18's are back on...

Replace the tire. Not worth the risk to your safety to wait. I had one last month. Once I noticed it I was scared ****less until I got it fixed.

Roads in Nova Scotia now contain many potholes and my car now has 3 bad tires (new pirellis winters) and 2 bent rims...car is at the dealership to get them replaced and the rims repaired...not good

Totally agree C230Brit. I do need winter beaters but I have limited storage in my condo unit unfortunately.
