400 HP E-Class Diesel?
A new 2.9-liter turbo diesel could be the second option. The power output of which could be anywhere from 300 to 400 hp and 400 to 500 pound-feet of torque.
I'd have to agree that the title seems to scream that the new car WILL have 400hp, but one should always read the meat of the article to find the truth. Regardless, if the new W213 were to offer even a 300hp, 400 lb/ft torque engine for close money to that of the current e250BT - holy crap!!!! That would certainly make the new car a steal of a deal.

With twin-turbo it should be achievable.
BMW 535d Twin-Turbo currently has 295 HP + 442 lb-ft and 0~60 MPH @ 5.7 sec. Unfortunately it's only available in UK/Europe.

Why not just use the current Diesel engine from the ML/GL?
That has 240 HP + 450 lb-ft and is already certified for North America?
