new 2015 Sonata copies MB steering wheel, and all the E class options too.
Looks the same as the e class to me.

Certainly, MB did not invent the flat bottom wheel, but this POS Sonata has been trying to emulate the E class for over 10 years. The early Sonata made a feeble attempt to copy the distinctive oval headlights with poor results if you remember. Just Google a 2004 Sonata and you will have a good laugh.

I always love a good laugh. Hyundai always takes care of that! It is mind blowing how much they copy and paste. I will admit however the new S Class coupe rear end looks like a BMW...

One thing they are doing is bringing all the tech to a low price point.
This will have all the genesis features... distronic with stop/go, blind spot detection, forward collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist, lane departure warning, auto high beams, Google destination for navi, heated front and rear seats, vented front seats, smart open power trunk, pano roof and LED lights, rear window blinds.
The Sonata will also be one of the first cars in the world to offer Apple CarPlay,
I think they took the E class option list and copied it.
But it is remarkable as this is the first "bread and butter" sedan to have all these options available.
Tech wise and tech wise only , it has more than my Bluetec and thats loaded.

All this tech at a lower price point is better for the consumer. It forces other car makers to give more at the same price point to compete and forces luxury brands to innovate so they can differentiate themselves in all categories. Kia and Hyundai are giving Honda, Toyota and the others something to compete with as the quality gap shrinks.

What would you expect from an Asian car maker . I wish they "replicated" MB's body strength instead . I also smell Seat influences subtly .I know the steering wheel is not tri star badge to MB but come on why their designers don't get more creative

Hyundai has come a long way. With regards to body strength, they manufacture their own steel and use more high strength steel in their vehicles than anyone else. The Sonata has never tried to compete with the E class. This is simply an absurd inaccuracy. It has always been an Accord/Camry competitor, until it surpassed them. The new Sonata looks to be a pretty nice car in the mid-size family sedan market where it competes. The Genesis looks to be a real winner. The 2015 Genesis already has the automotive press saying that while Hyundai has not beaten BMW, they have definitiely nailed the Infinity, Acura, and Lexus levels with their new efforts. I love that they have embraced some serious high-tech in all of their models. For those of you that have had a good laugh, I don't think you will be laughing for long. With the infusion of Audi designers, and Lotus consulting for suspension tuning, they are a real up and comer. That said, I love my S350.

They are making good solid cars with nice interior and exterior aesthetics lately, they are going to kick the crap out of their competitors (which isn't Mercedes). I've always said that quote above from Cotton and stick with it, imitation has never really bugged me.

The redesigned 2015 Genesis (not Sonata) has the MB E350 directly in its sights as far as targets it aims for. The marketing and comparison materials all point to the E350, as well as the GS350 and 5 series. Lofty goals which appear to have been well worked on over the last 3 years with the new DH platform. They will rely on value and cost of ownership as well as an extensive feature list which would result in a very loaded E350 at least $15K more. They appear very serious wit the new platform and the early reviews are surprising.

Hyundai taking styling cues from German brands? old news
when the new Genesis was revealed I almost commented on an article mentioning they accidentally put up a photo of a 7 series.

I have read the same information. The new Genesis looks to be a real winner. If they would stick a diesel in one, I would at least go to drive it. From the photos I have seen, the car is truly beautiful to my old eyes.

nothing new here, they have been copying MB for years now.
what I don't get is why MB doesn't sue them? in the guitar world Gibson and PRS actively go after brands that copy them and win. what is different about this?

1. Hyundai would love the recognition and free press that would come from a no win law suit.
2. All cars are derivative in some form - no one wants to open pandoras box. How about the large oval exhaust pipes - was that Lexus or MB or someone else?

Yeah I never meant to infer its competing with the E, just more that it is the first car bringing ALL the E options and a copy of the steering wheel to bread and butter midsize family sedans.
Even in the small car class, I think the Elantra and Mazda 3 are now better than corolla, civic, and sentra which was never thought of possible 10 years ago.
The mazda 3 u can get radar cruise and HUD display. It is not stop and go like the sonata though.

In my opinion suing someone is admittance that they are a threat. MB is too cool for that.
