40k service, what common issues to get checked under warranty?
I am coming up for my 40k service, While there I wanted to get everything checked and fixed in one shot. Got the 2 pk pre-paid service for $779 for the diesel which will cover my 40k and 50k which would cost $1500 a-la cart.
1. steering wheel does not rise/lower for easy exit .. (yes the setting is on, my 2010 did not do it either)
2. Seat belt doesn't auto tighten
3. Wood trim faded
4. Bluetooth not clear (= update software)
5. Steering wheel squeaks when turned left / right in the cold
6. transmission rough downshift 2-1 ( = re- map transmission)
7. any other common things that I missed? Any suspension items to check that fail alot? I need an alignment as well.
All these are minor but might as well get it fixed under factory warranty and before CPO kicks in.
thanks

- Definitely an alignment ... IIRC recent pothole ate your tire and wheel right?
- Make sure the AdBlue tank is cleaned and topped off. AdBlue crystallizes around the tank if they spill any.

I having been thinking about a prepaid maintenance package. How do you know what is included? Do the documents spell out each service? Or do they refer to the required items in the maintenance schedule (I.e. tranny flush at 40k, plugs at 60k)?

Best to call your local dealers and say if I have prepaid maint. What do you do. Ask them about tranny and plugs. I did a 80k and tranny was covered. Will do 40k in a couple weeks and report.

There is a Sticky with service in this forum. Konigstiger has posted the official required and recommended service documents for your car.
E350 40K required service. Oil and filter, cabin filter, brake fluid flush and replace, trans fluid drain and replace service, and I believe the engine air filters. In addition there are a number of checks conducted. Most dealers also rotate your tires for free.
Download, review the document and highlight the required services. Prepaid maintenance is a good value.
Ala carte the current 40k service is about $1100. You can buy the 4yr/40k, 5yr/50k and 6yr/60k for $999.00 from the dealer.
The 40k is know as a B3, the 50k is primarily an oil change and filter, the 60k is oil and filter, brake fluid flush and cabin filter and other related services.

I forgot to mention that I had to have the burl walnut wood veneer changed as the MB supplier did not have a UV protector in the finish and it faded.
I had the front struts replaced as they were making some noise.
The rear bumper cover was sticking out slightly as the early 2010s did not have an extra fastening tab to prevent this.
All of these issues are researchable in the sticky in this forum Service Bulletins.
Check the plastic covers over the ends of the seat tracks, mine cracked. No bulletin but they were replaced.
I also had a leak from the transfer case that was repaired.
Thanks again to Konigstiger.

The 40k should include the transmission flush, though my dealer said it didn't at first so I had take it back in, paid for under pre-paid. I got ripped off I think in my prepaid though, $1699 for 4? I called 2 dealers and they both had the same price so let it go, but sounds like better deals elsewhere especially if you get your 40 or 80k covered...

Yep, the 40K includes the transmission service, just had mine performed. It's clearly indicated in the maintenance guide, so disappointed to hear there are MB dealers out there trying to take advantage.
I think the key is making sure a 40K interval is in the package, else it is quite overpriced (IMHO) given the work performed.

Everyone who has a prepaid package should download the required and recommended maintenance that is provided in this forum by Konigstiger.
As I recall this information was also provided in a separate with your car manuals. That way you know what you are supposed to receive or have done. The shop personnel follow the required maintenance. My experience is the service advisors are often less than well informed or confuse which car requires what. The shop often includes the recommended services also as it is a selling tool.
One of the most neglected services by owners using independent shops or trying to save money on a 60k car is the brake fluid flush. Brake fluid is hydroscopic and there are so many systems on the car requiring clean uncontaminated brake fluid. This applies to all modern cars. If it is required get it done. Likewise automatic transmission fluid changes. There are some great independent shops, I am not denigrating them, I just prefer to use the dealer especially when the car is in warranty.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I did get a bit ripped off but still cheaper than paying per service. First 3 cost me about $900 total which I was pretty happy with, so total of $2599 over 7 services isn't terrible. The pricing for the 3 year plan at each dealer I called was around $1500 I believe so I just did the 4 year to now worry about it (bought my pre-paid just as I got to 40k).

My 2011 is around 40K KM's and had the motor for the gas tank lock replaced. Also check for possible breakage on the pockets behind the front seats as the plastic inside it can break in the middle.

are you hoping they 'fix' things that are not broken??
what do you expect them to do?

how did your service go? I'm about to pull the trigger on the prepaid maintenance. Was the tranny service included?

I can't get a straight answer on this from the dealership. They are telling me Mercedes no longer says that a 2010 E63 needs a tranny flush at 4/40.
Does anyone have a complete list of what is to be done at 4/40 (b3) Like a dealer checklist.

check the service sticky thread. the checklists are posted there. There was also another recent thread on this subject. Your service advisor could be confusing your 2010 with the newer transmissions that get the fluid change at 7/70. My local dealer confirmed it is still 4/40 for my 2011 e550. I don't know if anyone checked on an e63, but you may want to try another SA or dealer to be sure.
