rims...19" or 20? CV4 Vossens.

I run a stock E250, thinking to change off to some 19's or 20's and some new tires.
Suggestions? I was looking at the CV4 from vossen, or CV1, and if they still make the michielin Pilot super sport as my choice for tires.

How could Toyo Proxes hold up on my E class? It's for a tropical country, lots of rain and sun.

Anyone have these and can make some reccomendations?

I have the CV7s on my coupe and love em. As far as those you listed, I like the CV4s better. On my sedan I went with 19's and I think 20's probably suit the car better. The 19s are great though.

19's the ride will be much better, but it will look amazing with the 20s. I believe a lot of tires are even cheaper in 20" fitments than 19" as well.

You cant go wrong with the Vossen Wheels

Either wheel will be great

The 20" wheels would be a better fit

20x8.5
20x10

and Toyos will be fine as well

For flush fitment go 20x9 32et and 20x10.5 42et or 45et.

We are big fans of Toyo Tires and use them on a few of our project vehicles!

FYI CV4 are in 20" or 22" only.

2014 E550 Sedan
springs and supsension

Ed99,
I love the setup you have on your car. I just bought a '14 E550 Sedan and am planning to do a few modifications. Did you lower your car or is that the factory suspension? I have checked around and can't find any lowering springs manufacturers for my car. What offset are your rims? They sit really flush and look great! Do they rub at all? Thanks in advance for your advice.

H&R should have springs for the 2014s. I got some for my coupe.

I called H&R's main office and they only make springs for the 2 door. I also called Eibach and they don't make any springs for this car yet. ( 2014 E550 Sedan 4 matic with regular suspension)

Why is 20" a "better fit" (which I do not agree with) or is it just because it looks better (which I agree it does) than 19"?

20s look better on the car

as well as the fact that the CV4 is only available in 20 and 22" applications.

I just completed a 2014 E350 Coupe today on 20" wheels lowered on H&r Springs and she came out great

Also did a 2011 and 2014 E350 sedan last week on Vossen CVT wheels and lowered H&R springs

All three wheels had 20" applications

245/30/20
275/30/20

no rubbing what so ever and the ride was great also

So we're in agreement - 20" do look better, but 19" are a "better fit" for the vehicle(W212). The fact that a specific wheel design is not available in 19", does not make a 20" "better fit" (at least to my understanding what "better fit" - safety first, looks second - means). I personally have/had 5 different W212/C207 cars and used several different 20" sets on each so I'm talking from a personal experience (on W218 I use 20s, but on W212 - 19s because the "right"/safe tires do not fit front of W212, except with airmatics).

Thanks for the compliment. My E550 is on factory airmatic and lowered with lowering links. My wheels are 20x9 32et front and 20x10.5 42et rear.

Here is my Vossen CVT lowered on H&R Sport Springs done at need4speed. Paul is your man.

I can tell you that my original AMG Sport wheels in the 18" does not compare to my new Vossen 20". It not only looks and corners better. It is a very comfortable ride vs driving the stock felt like driving a boat.

+1 I hated the way my car drove and handled before lowering and installing my 20" wheel set up.

20' wheels are a cleaner fit on the E350's large body, but like anything 18's or 19's if done correctly can look equally as impressive. The ride quality between 19' wheels and 20' wheels is not noticeable, I have had both.

20x8.5 20x9.5 35 offset all around running Nitto NT555 tires 235/35F and 275/30R lowered on HR springs no rub.

20x9" et32 and 20x10.5" et42 wrapped in Nitto NT555 235/35/20 and 275/30/20 (perfect size for 4Matic)... lowered on Vogtland springs... no rubbing, except in the front on certain speed bumps (but what else do you expect)

all you guys that lower your e350, do you keep your original shocks or do these get upgraded also? any concern for the life of the shock due to lower/more aggresive springs or are the rates identical and they're just a smaller spring?

i was always of the opinion that shocks need to be matched to spring

Not sure about the spring rates on mine, but I imagine the fronts are different. The rears just look like a shorter version of OEM. Before buying mine, I read this forum to find people who also had them and they had no issues with shocks after over a year of use and 10k miles. I've had mine for almost a year now and haven't had any issues yet, but my main vehicle is a motorcycle, so I put relatively low miles on the E.

Edit: I think the "reason" why shocks were okay was because lowering springs only dropped it about 1.5" which "apparently" isn't enough to have that much of an effect on our cars, especially since you're not (supposed to be) driving it hard or aggressively (e.g. on the track).
