Unhappy Horrible loud clanking noise from wipers

When i have my wipers in use my wipers bang, each wipe cycle they produce a horrible loud clanking noise, I know it isn't normal? For a Merc, cant be.. Anyone know what it could be? Just started happening randomly, the wipers work fine, just sounds like they're banging against something once they rest, checked under the hood, nothings there.. doesn't seem like its hitting anything near there?? all the windows are closed, doors so that is noise from outside the cabin coming in

There is a video to show what i mean, sprayed the jets to minimize the rubber juddering against the dry glass, the clank is right at the end of each cycle, even if i speed it up clanks just get faster.. one know what it could be? Thanks in advanced

Yeah, that is bad and not normal. Do you have a chipped windshield down low by chance? That would cause this click-clack (don't ask me how I know). Other than that, I would say to check that the mounting bolts for the arms are tight.

Sounds like the park setting is in need of correction.

Mounting bolts are tight, no chips, blades are fine.. everything seems ok? So confused to why this is happening?
Park setting? how would i go about sorting that? thanks

There is too much travel when the wipers are returning to parked position. This is a strait forward fix and you need to lift the hood to get to these. You remove the bolts per wiper and then adjust the resting position up a couple tics

I removed the bolts, and tried to adjust the wipers up however they seem completely stuck there, if i try to move them the whole mechanism moves, turns out the left wiper is hitting the plastic panel where the washer nozzle is and the right wiper is hitting the left wiper.. I don't understand how this happened, used to work fine before

That is strange and something that coordinates their movement must have gone whacko. I would get it to the shop and not run it like that for very long. It doesn't rain in England much right?

Did U physically remove the wipers off the gear? They are linked to gears/teeth that locked them in... Remove the bolt and pull them off and them reset them

^ I reread his post and thought he pulled them off and tried to reset them. I think you are right Peter, he just removed the bolts and tried moving the arms. EMLUK- you must remove the bolts and physically pull the arms up and off the posts altogether. You will see that the posts are gear cut/splined. The arms cannot be moved without removing them completely. Note where they are, so as Peter says you can move them up a couple of clicks on the post. Try them, and if that is not enough remove and repeat until the noise is completely gone.

It's possible that one or both of the wiper arms may have encountered some interference with something or each other and stripped the post shaft or the arm internals to cause it to move at the post downward. Inspect the arm and post when you pull them off to make sure they are unworn.

I did apply some force after removing the bolts to try and separate them from the gears, Pulled them up and towards me, however they would not budge, I guess I'll just give it some more force, i didn't want to mess around to much as i didn't really know what to do, there is a little play in the wipers, But its strange how it happened, after one cycle happened normally they just made that noise, so there might be a possibility that it shredded its gears (I Hope not), And no never rains over here haha

The arms should pop up and off pretty easily. Use more force or a wedge of some type to assist moving them upwards. Maybe they are corroded on there. Spray some PB Blaster in there.

Really doesn't sound healthy anymore, getting worse during use.. Cant wait to see what surprise is down there for me
