E350 2012 center console cooler
In my E350 the center console compartment is not cooled, but the glove compartment is.
I just modified the center compartment for cooling by drilling 10 hole of 1/4" diameter in the rear of the compartment, next to the USB, etc. connectors. DO NOT DRILL INTO THE SECTION WHERE THE CONNECTORS ARE, BUT DRILL NEXT TO IT.
These holes go directly to the rear air supply and if one closes the rear air vent, a significant amount of cold air is allowed into the compartment.
I used velcro to seal the compartment, when I do not wish to cool it.
You can remove the rear grill to see what you are doing, but is it not necessary, by inserting some nails into the two holes next to the hinges of the compartment covers.

Nice... You could line the center compartment with a thin layer of insulation like black styrofoam to make it like a thermos ...

2014 E550-sold 😩
So, does this also warm the console in the winter so you can keep your Mac and cheese in there too? Yummy!

+1 Pictures Please ... and have you noted the temps coming into the console from the rear air vents with full AC going?
Hmmm, Mac 'n cheese in the winter and cold, errr "drinks" in the summer ... doesn't get much better than that!

The glove compartment is cooled to keep whatever electronics you place in there cooled. Manual also states that in winter, should close the glove box vent to prevent overheating of the elecronic device.
Personally, whatever I am drinking doesn't have time to get warm. If I need something cooled, I take a cooler.
Not sure how much cooler it would really be. Would also be dependent on how cold you want front of car to be in order to get enough cold air into the compartment.

Center arm rest cooler
Like it or not, my cooler works great on long trips and keeps my drinks and XXXX cool in the summer and possibly in the winter too, but since it takes "air conditioned air" it will blow air at temperatures selected by the AC system.
As to the Glove compartment, that cooling system is very weak, as the opening is small and the box large, so I do not use for my drinks.
My S series had a similar feature in both compartments, and I really did not understand why MBZ did not included it in the E series. But where there is a will there is a way.

Have attached photos of open and close vents!

PS to air vent
Did not mention, that to get maximum cooling one should CLOSE the rear air vent, so that all air is diverted to the center cooler!!!
