Hadn't really compared the two ..
Note that the E400 sedan (Sport only) comes standard with the Premium 1 Package and split fold-down rear seats - added options for last year's E550 at $4320 and $440 respectively.
Compared to the tarted-up MY14 E350 build checked online - the E400 price wasn't too bad.

I take it that it comes standard with sport steel springs and airmatic is extra

That is what it looks like - the E400 is a bit cheaper than the E550 about $ 2K but still a lot. I wonder how much a comparable BMW 535 i costs.

I helped MBUSA make 839 acoustic laminated glass happen as an option for the USA! (More like I think I reminded someone that they needed to add it to the ordering materials when I was ordering my car and requested that option. They sort of overlooked it.) Too bad I coudln't add more options for the US market.

If I am reading this correctly, it would appear that they are going to offer the E400 in LUXURY TRIM for 2015. In 2014, it was only available as a Sport model. Can anyone confirm this?

The laminated acoustic glass option cuts down road and wind noise vastly; in the W221, you can barely hear the horn when you honk someone. When I first got that car, I thought there was a malfunction but soon realized it was the insulation. Also, laminated glass prevents break-ins as the glass will only crack, but not shatter - like your windshield.

The e400 has all the options that I would order anyways and seems like a good value. Power mirrors, ventilated seats, leather, even the dash is nicer mb tex. I don't know about the reliability of the turbo though.
