I just noticed in my fob that the physical key is missing (the one you have to eject manually). No idea how it popped out, but its gone.
Anyone know the process/cost to replace the key. Or do I need to get a whole new unit. The Fob still works, but obviously if the battery goes out you are toast.
Why don't you use a keychain / ring to hold keys together? They latch on to the physical key and would reduce the chance of losing physical key.
But then you may lose the key fob instead.
You get a warning when your battery is low, so I would not go too long without replacing it. Sounds like you only have one key, in which case you should order a new one from the dealer anyway. It will take a few weeks to get and you should definitely put some kind of ring in there to know more timely if the steel key has been lost.

Does it protect that ejector button? I am guessing I must have depressed it somewhere which unlocked the blade and then it fell out. I just dislike the bulk from adding anything to my key

Yes but say I am out/about and the battery goes, I would have to find somewhere to get a battery vs taking the blade out and plugging it into my car. Been using my spare for now.

Yeah will have to do that...I saw a blade runs 10-$30 bucks? then the whole unit is around 250.
Goes into service soon so mine as well just order one.
$250 sounds about right. My replacement key came with the steel key and there is no programming required. When you first insert it into the key slot, there is a message that says to wait while the car goes through its recognizing procedure. After 2-3 seconds you get the all clear and are good to go. The keys come from the Texas facility and can only be ordered by the dealer with proof of ownership. Do not try to buy a key on EBay as they are a nice paper weight and that is it.
