Might buy an e350 tomorrow, need you help
Recently joined the forum. Second post. Going tomorrow to look at a 2011 e350 wagon. As I try to prepare for tomorrow, I've been doing a lot of research on the car and the dealer. Dealer is MB of Greenwich, Ct. Just learned that they are owned by the Penske Automotive Dealership! This particular dealership did not get good reviews, one review characterizing them as the McDonalds of used cars. My sales guy is telling me the car is CPO by MB, but i have a feeling that is not the case. It is not listed on car fax as a MB cpo, like the other cars i have looked at. I think it might be dealer certified, which means they did not do the factory 162 inspection.
Do you think it's still worth to look at? Even if the car is dealer certified. Also how do i get the extra year warranty if it is not cop'ed by mb?
Also what are your thoughts a 2014 loaner car with 6000 miles priced well below msrp that will be cpo if i purchase it. Which means i will get warranty till 2019, unlimited miles.

1) Paint - so automatic car washes - but I'm kind of obsessive about hand washing, I can tolerate swirl marks but with all do respect to the guys at "make ready" they don't take care of them like their own cars, and I've seen them detail their own cars at the end of shift (damn good job)
2) less abuse than a rental car, but a good percentage will push loaners to their limits... nothing an MB can't handle but still
3) When I was buying a Cayenne there wasn't that much of a discount on the loaner
4) carfax only lists what is reported to them.... look for MB documents to confirm CPO status

If you are unsure of the CPO status, call MBUSA's 800#, give them the VIN and they can tell you for sure if it is CPO or not, and what date the warranty is good till.
How much off MSRP for the 2014 loaner? I've been keeping an eye on low mileage loaners in the 5 closest dealers in central CA, and I haven't seen any with a price that is significantly lower than what one can expect to get on a brand new equally equipped model. (i.e. a new 2014 E350 can be easily had for $8k to $12k off MSRP, while a 2014 E350 loaner with 10k miles is about $8k off MSRP. For that, might as well get a new one, similarly with C class and GLK's I've been looking at. they are about $6k to $8k off MSRP for a 1 year with 10k miles or less. One can get those discounts off a new one as well).
I have lots of neighbors and friends that drive MB/BMW and get loaners when they bring it in for service. While I always fill up the loaner with premium, most of my neighbors/friends will drive it like they stole it and fill up with the cheapest gas they can find.

Thanks for the replies! Loaner has 6000 miles, msrp on the car is 63,000 and selling for 53,000? Nice thing about the loaner vs the new car is the fact that the loaner car will give an extra year warranty with unlimited miles.

$10k off is achievable with a new car.
It all depends on how many miles you drive and how much that extra 1 year warranty is worth to you.
You can get a 3 year extended warranty for about another $2500 or so.

Yes in CA its very common to get $8k to $12k off a new E350. Especially now at the end of the model year with the winter event just a month or so down the road. Dealer's will be clearing out the remaining 2014 E350's at great discounts.

I would ditch that loaner and the suspect dealer's CPO. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is. Stay far away and safe.
Many people have got brand new E350 for the price you are looking at (probably a sedan...not sure about Wagon though).
