E250 BT Occasional burn-off
How many of you smell the what i'm assuming is the occasional (normal) burn-off from the diesel exhaust system, once the car is shut off?? Is anyone else experiencing the same?

I've never smelled anything unusual with any of my three diesels. One might think that if the smell is strong it could be a problem but, otherwise,it's not.If it happens regularly perhaps a call to the dealership is in order.

diesel smells ???
Now driving my 4th MB diesel, I have never noticed any unusual smells from the tail pipes.
In fact, there is far less odour that emits from my E350BT compared to similar cars with gas engines.

No smells at all from my 2011 E350 Bluetec. I've owned the car for 2.5 years, and have put about 45,000 miles on it.
Never smoke, never smell.

My car has done the "burn off" thing a couple times, a slight smell and noise when the car is warm and freshly turned off. I assumed it's a normal thing.

I have not notice any smells during driving or after turning it off (normally parked in a garage) either. I got over 15k on the E250 since May.
Maybe due to most of the miles are interstate miles and the diesel gets fully warmed up almost every time it is turned on. Current MPG is almost 40mpg figured by math/fuel used and miles driven. MB computer is highly generous in its figuring MPG out per tank.

Thanks guys,
I'm a little concerned now…my experience is that there is absolutely no smell in the cabin, no performance issues, motor is never driven harshly, but without warning, I will turn off engine, open door and overcome with the strong smell of burning oil. The motor has 13K miles, has been to the dealer at 5K for tire rotation and overall inspection, 10K for oil etc., and no one has reported any issue. The phenom has occurred 3 times, the first two times, I attributed to new car burn-off and bluetec cycling of soot etc, but every time I open the boot, sniff down into the engine bay, it emits from the rear left engine location, no oil spots and no smoke. I don't want to take it in and the issue cannot be reproduced!!! Any suggestions???

The burn-off noise (kind of a fast faint ticking noise) and smell (not an oil smell) was definitely coming from the exhaust area/rear of my car. There have been periods where several weeks could go by without me taking the car out on the highway, I assumed it was burning off stuff from being stuck in the low speed commuting grind.
