The 2017 E-Class is Going to Be Super Luxurious
We’ve been catching glimpses of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class for quite some time now, so you’d probably expect that we're going to see it - and its enhanced luxury - in the flesh soon. However, that cannot be further from the truth.

E-Class, Range Rover, Lamb
I could care less about speed, I want to make that thing luxurious as anything.
On the fence about blowing my out and just getting another Range rover to fill this spot.

The W212 has tried (and largely failed) to be a sportier E-Class than previous generations. I love my W212 but would prefer it to be quieter, to ride more smoothly, and have more comfortable seats.
All of these attributes should be what MB aims for in the W213, IMO.
Chasing the BMW and Audi "sports sedan" market is not what MB should be about, at least not in the E-Class. The C-Class and CLA can fill that role.

I concur. After 4 E-Classes, I got rid of my W212 due to the poor seat comfort, and harsh ride. This ride quality was poor with the luxury suspension and 18" wheels. I can't imagine how bad it was on the sport models with 19"+.
Luxury sells most Mercedes.

When I "graduated" from my second W124 to the 2003 W211 I was not impressed as much as I thought I would be. More luxurious for sure but the sport handling went away. The second 2009 W211 in 4Matic form was equally disappointing because it had been decontented as we say from the 2003.
When I got my hands on the W212 E350 4Matic wagon it was more like the W124s than the W210 (which I never liked) or W211.
I don't have any driver aids on ride- only on shift points. For a heavy car it moves well off the line and there is not much I do with my SLK320 that I don't do with the wagon.
I find the ride to be harsher on the 18" wheels they bolted on a the factory but quite good on the 17" winters.

My previous X3 sport seats had decent lower cushion padding but were narrow on the torso (even with the adjustment wide open), making it somewhat uncomfortable e.g. when you had a jacket on. The E350 seats are a bit more comfortable in the torso width area but the lower cushion padding is a bit hard on the upper, outside thigh/hip area, mostly on my left side. Some people commented on this in other posts but I didn't notice it on a test drive (no surpise since it was relatively short). I wish I had the seats from the ML350 loaner I had recently because they are more comfortable and nicer looking (even in MBTex trim I believe). The E seats are not terrible but I do wish they were a bit more comfortable. I might have to graduate to a S-class someday when I grow up, and I don't have much time to do that since I was born in the 50's

Hype - you had the 550 with Airmatic, if I recall correctly.
I would think this has a smoother engine (V8) and a more comfortable ride due to the air suspension. I would hope that the 550 was accordingly a better experience.

Does the airmatic ride smoother in comfort mode than the luxury with standard springs. My airmatic is relaxed in comfort mode and stiffens in sport and you can feel expansion joints ect in sport.

Mine is MB TEX / ARTICO ,it was nice and comfy but after 1.45 hours of driving and more you had to wiggle your legs, thighs, butts to relieve pressure .
I had upholsterer modify the seat cushions and now it feedls smooth ,still not as comfortable as Cadilac Fleetwood seats

I think the next E-class will try to capture both ends of the market. With the AMG performance models, regular luxury models and sport models there should be a suspension configuration for every driver. It will be interesting to see how much weight loss there will be.

I had both springs and Coilovers and now with airmatic lowered 2inches and I must say airmatic rides a lot smoother vs spring or coilovers.

Looks like via the new S, and C, they've relinquished any chase for sportiness, and are going to go for luxury leader again. Very good news, as it's what always separated them from the rest, imo.

After taking an extended drive up North last weekend, I found the seats to not be that bad at all. Maybe they're softening a bit with use. I'm quite sure I don't want to drive an S-class yet, for precisely the reason you mentioned .
#24
I test drove the S class the seats were plush but I was surprised how much the car floated when driving over hilly bits of the road and I thought maybe next time I will get the yacht but not now. If I hated the standard e class seats then the AMG was certainly a option. To me a bad seat is one that once I walk away from the car after a long drive my back stiffens up after about five or six steps.

Still don't quite understand what all the fuss about the seats are. I read all the complaints on the thread dedicated to this very topic before switching from my 2010 to the 2014 E and was concerned. However after making numerous 3 hour + trips , I can say there is no difference in the seat comfort levels between the two, keeping in mind I am a lanky 6'5. I truly think *** size might have a lot to do with the differences in opinion here.... We really are spoiled on this forum, took a drive this past weekend in a friend's brand new Honda Accord and it just made me appreciate more what an engineering marvel the E class is!
