cheers, but I want to know abt the software hack from above website.
in general seems positive feedback from posters here on Mbworld, but i'm always reluctant when Iawebsite doesn't give any information of where the sellers are based..

Has anyone done the software deal? I'm partial to the hardware solution (figure it's easier to undo / less risk of screwing something up).
Similarly, to anyone who has done the hardware mod, which tools did you use & where did you find them?
Looks like I'm picking up my E350 next week. Yippee!

Do you really think it is a good idea to have a DVD running while you are tooling down the road at 80 MPH? There is a good reason that the DVD will not work when the car is in motion.

Considering that MB equips these cars with digital TV TUNERS in other countries, yes, I have no problem with it. I've had a TVs in all of my cars since ~1994. I rather appreciated having it after September 11th, and all of the many hurricanes we've seen. When they shut off analog TV, I resorted to propping my phone up on the screen when I have something coming down.
The Video in Motion mod also allows you to enter things into Navi & MB Apps when driving as well. Imagine having to pull over to change the radio station in TuneIn. Also allows you to permanently enable or disable Eco Start/Stop.

Bad idea
The COMAND displays for audio and navigation are too distracting already.

Just because a DVD is playing doesn't mean the driver's watching it. I often have continuing ed / lectures / sermons / BBC or Sky News or Deutche Welle going in the car. It's not exactly the most compelling visuals to look at. Probably wouldn't be a good idea to be playing the latest Hollywood flick on there with rapidly changing visuals. If weather's bad, I have weather radar on the screen. A couple of years back I drove through the middle of an F1 tornado. While exciting, I'd prefer to avoid a second go of that. Rarely do I look at the screen. If I do it's a quick glance, no different than glancing at the speedometer or GPS, and I wouldn't do it with traffic around.
With over 1,000,000 miles on the road, I've seen quite a bit and drivers keep coming up with new ways to amaze me. Touch-screens and phones seem to be the worst distractors. People somehow get caught up in what they're doing and they forget they're driving. This part is independent of any technology. Smoking, doing makeup... I've seen people get too caught up talking with people in the car to notice they're driving. Saw this last week actually. As far as DUIs go, I see the drunks on the road just about every weekend in Florida. Truly scary. Had a drunk crash into our office building this week on Wednesday. 3x-4x the legal blood alcohol limit...and they let him out on $3k bail...at 3am in the morning.
ALL of this is FAR less distracting than trying to use the built-in entertainment systems in a Lexus or Infiniti Q50. I'm not sure what Lexus was thinking by putting a computer mouse in a car. The Q50 system actually scared me, and I'm a techie. The Q50 system, especially with its touchscreen mounted at knee-level is worse than texting on a cell phone, and that's providing the system isn't severely lagging or crashing.
If anything, I applaud Mercedes on COMAND and its simplicity and LACK of touch-screen. I think we're approaching the limits of having features in the car and ability to safely control them.

Number one cause of accidents today (other than DUI) is distracted driving-often at high speeds. There is absolutely no valid reason to have DVD operating in a vehicle while it is moving if it is visible to the driver. If it is visible, it will be watched. What happens when passenger is watching it and says "Hey, look at this"?
The COMAND displays for audio and navigation are too distracting already.

I guess you never have passengers, huh? Since my 5, 3 and 1 year old sitting at the back are more "distracting" than any cellphone or other auto gadget, maybe I should send them away... OR, I could just pop in...Frozen... and have them be completely quiet and entertained.

I find the consistent reminders from some of the members here so ridiculous. Really people, everyone here is an adult and can make their own choices. I dont recall anyone asking about legalities, maybe in another thread but the OP is asking about a product, not if you agree with it or not... Move along.

come on people, it's the end of the year. peace & love and all that stuff.
Let's all agree to disagree ? :-)
Still hesitating to do it myself but that's mainly due to the price...

I love the VIM pick lock!!! I play my music videos and get to enjoy a glimpse over, ever once in a while, just to see what I'm rocking to. It's better than watching the Navigation screen role by or the radio station just sit there. I treat my car like I would my own body, my baby and I have never gotten a ticket or been in an accident in my life. So, that should tell you something. It might not be for everyone, that I know. I like being able to change my navigation while moving. Having to stop when your frustrated is really upsetting and I do it vocally not via the knob. You can do more than just watch a movie or watch music video's. It unlocks all the other functions as well. It is great!!!! I love, and doesn't affect my driving at all. If your not a defensive driver then maybe it isn't for you.

It is on sale on Ebay now and they give a 5.00 discount after you give them a 5 star rating. I bought mine to soon by 10 days and they wouldn't give me the 25.00 back. Anyway, as for the VIM, it unlocks ANY function that is locked when the car is in drive or over 5Km or 3MPH. All features are accessible via voice or hands at that time. I don't know exactly which work, I do know I only use voice commands for Nav. when I must change course, while driving. Buy it its worth its weight In gold!

Please re-read. I wrote it was 5.00 which is $5, without the symbol. How can you misunderstand that?face. I didn't use the dollar sign . Also, what I said was it went on sale days after I bought it and they didn't want to give me the 25.00 difference back ($25) They aren't a very honorable business in my opinion. Most business's offer the difference within a short period of time. There wasn't a "make offer" so I paid the full asking price. Glad you got a great deal. Enjoy

The inability to watch the DVD while moving is a safety measure so as not to create yet another driver distraction while moving. In my province tampering with it could be considered a violation. It is the same with my nav. I can voice load a destination but not manually while moving.
If you want it for your kids to watch movies why not buy a portable DVD with jacks for two headsets and hang it from the headrest and leave the system as is for yourself. If the wife wants to watch then she can sit in the back with the kids.
