engine air filter change 2013 e-350 (w212)

I have been unable to find an explanation of changing the engine air filter on my 2013 e-350 Luxury sedan. I am coming up on 35K and drive in an area of average conditions. It looks like the it is located within the rectangular box hanging on the left of the engine as one faces the front of the car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

engine air filter replacement

Thanks for your reply. After looking over the area described I see 3 torx screws along the top of the filter box accessible from the left side as one faces the engine. The one closest to the firewall has very little clearance, not allowing for a torx socket to fit much less move outward as the screw moves outward with removal. I see two male torx bolts on the top of the filter box on the right side of it that look like upon removal will let the entire filter box lift up and out of the engine area to be disassembled, filter replaced, reassembled and places back on the engine. Would this be the way to proceed? Thanks.

To remove the Torx screw nearest the firewall, I used a Torx bit in a ring wrench. I taped the two together so as not to drop the Torx bit into the void below. Once the screw was out far enough to show some plain shank, I used needle nosed pliers to walk it out the rest of the way. The screws remain captive in the cover. Just lift the cover away and the you can remove the filter element.
Hope that helps.

Any updates or videos on how to change the air filter on a 2013 E350 (w212)--Actually mine is a 2012, but has the filter on the side.

Changing the air filter is easier than it looks on a E350. First remove the engine cover then the hard plastic air supply tube to the air box. This piece of plastic is not a precision piece so wiggling and shacking it a little is ok. There is a rubber tubular air supply out of the air filter that flows air to the right, to the airflow sensor. This rubber tube has a metal factory supplied clamp that requires a special pair of pliers to loosen. If you don't want to buy another special tool, cut off the metal clamp and replace it latter with a large cable tie. Now remove the screws that hold the air filter box to the engine and then rotate the filter box upwards from the rear. If you can get this far, you can figure out how to remove and replace the filter element. The cable tie can be tightened quite snugly using a pair of regular pliers. A large hose clamp is too wide to fit the grove in the rubber tube.
