Bent and Cracked rear wheel on 2013 E350 Sport..need help.

I need a replacement wheel on my rear tire. Dealer said $1250.00 and back order from Germany.

I would appreciate any comments on this.

When things like this happen, it is always a good time to remind everyone that MB is currently selling several of their cars, including the current S Class with NO SPARE and not even a frigging place to put one, should an owner wish to provide their own. This is a trend and the only way we can reverse it, is to CONSTANTLY complain to our dealers, MBUSA, etc. Run flat tires might help with a simple puncture, but what if you are out of town and hit a road hazard that shreds your tire or cracks your wheel? If you have a spare, you are on your way quickly. With no spare, you are going for a ride in the cab of a tow truck. What if your family is in the car? Depending on where you are, it could take DAYS to have a new wheel or tire shipped in. Is this something YOU are comfortable with? A spare wheel/tire is absolutely ESSENTIAL to our safety and well being and we need to SCREAM at MB to get it through their heads. Just my opinion.

I 100% agree that the car should have a spare to put on in case tire gets damaged beyond quick fix like foam fill. For this reason I will NOT buy a car without a driveable spare in the trunk.

Some people think there always is help just a phone call away but the help can be hours away and waiting for it in pitch dark in the middle of nowhere is no fun. You never know who is going to stop to "help".

My previous MB's had full size spares (2005, 2009). Now my 2015 at least has a donut spare. About run flats and no spare at all, of any size or type, this was done by other manufacturers also, most notably BMW, several years ago. People complained but it did not change their strategy. Some thought it had to do with forced fuel consumption reductions like CAFE standards, yet there was an argument that weight reduction from no spare was offset by increased weight of the run flats. The concept of RFT is good in certain types of tire problems but for others I agree it is quite undesirable to have them. Carrying an extra spare in the trunk without a specific place to store it properly and securely is also quite unsafe to do, in certain types of accidents. In any case, it never hurts to voice dissatisfaction with a manufacturer, though it often times seems to fall on deaf ears.

In the W222, there is a poll going on about having a spare. I am going to forward the results to MBUSA, in the way of a screen shot of the graph. Even though many of you on this board may not have a W222, you might wish to vote anyway. Here's the link:
