Exclamation E550C won't start after refueling

I have had trouble with my 2010 E550C starting after refueling. This has happened several times now but at random times. Maybe once every 5 to 10 times after refueling. If you wait for 20 minutes it starts up just fine after initially sputtering some. I have had no luck starting the car in less than 20 minutes after refueling. I live in California so it's not related to cold weather. The dealer has not been able to figure out why this is happening. Any ideas.

What does the car not starting mean? It just doesn't even crank or it cranks but engine won't fire up?

I'd try another dealer. It's hard to believe "experts" on our marque wouldn't have any idea(s). Good luck!

It cranks fine but does not appear to get any fuel. After letting it sit for a while 15 plus minutes it sputters a bit and then eventually fires up. Trying to start it within the first ten minutes it just won't do anything at Ll but happily crank.

go to the end of the fuel rail and see if you get water or gas. If your putting in gas from the same station every time, they might quite possibly have water in there fuel. Water will always sink to the bottom of the tank. And it will give a similar situation. Or, toss a bottle of heat (little yellow bottle) in the tank and see if it helps.

How many miles on it? Changed fuel filter?

You need to get your fuel pump and/or fuel pressure regulator checked out. Low fuel pressure at the injectors will not atomize the fuel correctly.

Could be the pump heating up and not working at the correct pressure but allowing the engine run when it first starts up with the cool fuel pump.

This could be the reason as you say after 20 min wait it starts up, i.e. The fuel pump cools down and gives the needed pressure for proper fuel delivery in the engine. I would not think fuel pressure regulator would act like this but worth checking anyway.

Has your gas mileage gone down while having this issue? Too low fuel rail pressure would cause worse numbers.

Water in fuel does not really fit here as with the 20 min wait even more water would settle in the bottom of the tank and things should get worse, not better.

Thank you for your reply. The car has 70K miles on it and the problem started to happen around 65K.

I have not seen any variation in fuel mileage, but then again this thing sucks up fuel anyway

As I said, have your fuel pump / fuel rail pressure regulator checked.

Your pump perhaps went bad or started acting up at 65 k miles...

Might not be related, but on another car I had this issue if I topped off.
