Brakes not biting

I just took delivery of a CPO 2012 E550 4 matic. The car is great aside from the fact that the brakes don't bite. I feel it takes too long for them to stop the car. I drove the car for a bout a week at all different types of speeds with the same result. Any ideas why this is happening? The dealer that sold me the car said the pads have 8 mm left on them. It is a CPO car as I purchased from a Mercedes dealer (across the country, though). Thx in advance

Something is wrong. The brakes on these E550's are awesome.

Has the brake fluid been flushed recently? It may have moisture build up or air in it.

I am not sure. I took delivery of the car last week. I bought from a west coast dealer sight unseen and had it shipped to the east coast. It is a CPO car with 2 year service included. I will bring it in to my local dealer to see what they say. I put approx 250 miles on the car so far.

Ask the selling dealer for the certification checklist. It should show what was done.

I see that they replaced a rear brake hose. That could be where it wasn't bled properly.

Maybe the previous owner installed non oem/harder pads? If it feels like they need to be warmed up from cold that could be it. How many miles?

OEM pads on the car. The car has just over 14,000 miles on it.

Probably original pads.....so much for that theory Does the pedal pump up? If there's air in the lines pumping the pedal compresses it and increases the pressure.

May be master cylinder is faulty but whatever you do please don't drive your car with poor braking performance because you may get involved in accident or something nasty

This is a CPO car so I would suggest we all stop guessing and get thee to the dealer, park it, take his no cost loaner and tell him to call when it is fixed.
Clearly the calipers or at least one or two are moving. The pads could be glassed over, as others have said if the schedule to replace brake fluid has not been followed moisture is probably in the fluid which makes the pedal mushy and as you noted they had the system open and may not have bled it correctly. Too many possible causes to leave it to chance. Make them fix it. After all we are not talking about a mid 80's GM car here when it comes to brakes!!
