2010 E550 - OEM Windshield?
I was driving and I accidentally hit the wipers when the windshield was dry. It left a circular wiper mark/scratch about 4-6 inches in length on the windshield/driver side This is when I was test driving the car with a private seller. There must have been some debris stuck in the wipers.
The windshield is labeled Saint-Gobain Sekurit. Is this OEM? I have gone the Safelite route on my other cars but I'm not sure about doing the same with the MERC, no reason to explain why.
Me and my OCD just might live with it. It doesn't deter my vision but is rather a cosmetic issue at this point. There is a guy around these parts who said he is "training" on removing windshield scratches and he should be able to assist within a month's time.

Sounds like OEM glass. Polishing glass isn't that difficult. Griots garage makes several glass polishes that go on like car polish with a random orbital, and I'm sure there are others.

Rediesel, I'd rather polish vs. replace, but I heard that polishing could "distort" the glass if not done properly. Most people around here say that a scratch cannot be removed. I believe wax would just fill in the scratch to make it appear that it has been removed..
I"ll keep digging.
I"ll keep digging.

That must have been one diamond hard piece of debris! I haven't heard of wipers scratching a windshield surface like that for years. I can't imagine it is too deep and polishing it should not take much effort.

A wax would be a temporary fix; that's why I didn't mention it. How deep is the scratch? Removing scratches is the same principle whether paint, plastic, metal, or glass. Glass is probably the hardest surface of those so it will require the most time to "cut" thru with polish. As far as distortion it can happen, but you or someone else should only be removing a micron or two from the surface where the scratch is so it shouldn't effect the optical quality.

Yes, it's definitely not deep. I was shocked when it happened. I've accidentally used wipers on dry windshields with my other cars and not once have I had a scratch. Go figure it happens with the Benz.
