Couple of Oil Filter Pics
Posted as general info if anyone was interested lol.
Even though the car is in warranty, I do my own maintenance where possible, all documented. I typically use Mann oil filters (w/ M1 0W-40).
Anyway, my understanding is that Mann, Mahle, and Hengst are sort of the "big 3" when it comes to W212 oil filters. I had a Mann filter that will be installed on my upcoming change, but decided to pick up a Mahle filter with my last Rockauto order to check it out.
I noticed enough of a difference in the 2 that I thought I would post them up here.
Mahle on the left, Mann on the right.
Mahle is shorter with a sealing lip on each end, Mann has an end gasket. Filter media diameter and number of pleats look about the same. I like the webbing on the Mann filter - I think it may help to keep the pleats aligned, especially if used for full 10K OCI's. I don't go that long so I think either filter will work for my needs. However, for virtually the same cost, I prefer the Mann filter.

The Mann (right) look alot more similar to MB's filter. Do you know if they are flees elements? I see you dont go the full 10K but would like to point out if you do go by service intervals its important to use a flees type filter

Sorry, should have mentioned this. The Mann is a fleece filter, not sure about the Mahle, but I think it is as well. From some research it seems they are a polyester/fleece blend. I typically go 5k on oil changes but regardless, since the cars in warranty I want to be sure I use parts that won't be out of spec particularly on the (expensive) drivetrain. I think Mann is OEM supplier to MB?

Throwing in a caution for those with MY2014 E350.
Mercedes built these engines with mixed oil filter housings so you will need to double check with your dealer which filter to use.
You could be using the V8 or V6 version filter. My dealer told me to buy both and return one later.

I was at the MB dealer yesterday on unrelated stuff, but decided to check oil filter for my car. I didn't get a picture but when I opened up the factory MB oil filter box, there was a Mann filter sitting in there, identical to what I showed in the post. The only differences were the MB logo and 0001802609 part number stamped on the end, right opposite of the Mann name and HU718/5 part number. When I buy these, I go by that HU718 number. So for my application, I'm pretty confident that when I use the Mann filter, I'm essentially using an OEM part.

Correct. The Mann is what I have been using for years in my E500.

I just did the B0 service, just some pics of the used Mann filter out of my car. I let it go a bit longer to about 5800 miles. As you can see, other than normal discoloration the filter looks like it did out of the box, no loosening of the retaining band and the filter pleats look good. Easy to see how these can go 10K miles.

I change mine every 5,000 miles and oil every 10,000 miles! The filter does all the work! Keeps ALL contaminates out of your Oil. Lie vacuuming your carpet
with a loaded filter bag. Think you are picking up 100% of what you vacuum? What blows out back into the room?
Okay go 10,000 miles or 15,000 and see after 50,000 miles if your burning oil or throwing blue smoke because of ring damage due to dirty oil? Run very dirty oil through a dirty filter EQUALS = Dirty oil going through Your Engine! Got It?
