Talking W212 2009 600.000 km :D

Hi guys. I got a rediculously cheap offer on an old Taxi E class from 2009. Fact is the car has ran over 600.000 kilometers (i pity the poor cab driver that drove this in 5 years). All the interior and exterior look fine (besides the front bumper) and so does the engine. Im just amazed the car looks well after so much use/abuse.

Anyways - i'd like to have the car on the side just to tour around for fun. Maybe make 1000 kilometer per year with it... Having a 'garage' car doesnt bother me - neither does downtime - and im quite handy myself with MB's so i can do alot of the work.

What should i replace besides the obvious? I'm thinking EGR Valve + Injectors + filters + oil + cleaning gearbox + gb-oil... Is there anything i forgot?

Or just throw in a new engine and gearbox all together? Theyre about 2.5K installed in my country.

Please dont give me the advice to just buy a low kilometer car - im buying it off a friends business for 2K - just to play around with... Thanks in advance for your advice!

First of all is it actually a W212 and not a W211? The production of the W212s started in 2009 as MY 2010. 2009 was the last MY for the W211.
Is it by chance a diesel?
Having said that for $2000 you will have parts worth more than the price you are paying for the car so I don't see much risk given what you want to do with it. You won't get far trying to sell it on. You will most likely have to part it out when done with it.

Wow that is a lot of miles - I guess the key is maintenance. At that mileage tons of stuff could go wrong.

if you're buying it, make sure you're keepin it. coz even at 1000ks a year with you, in 10 yrs time, car will be 16 yrs old and 610,000ks!!!

otherwise, just give it a new engine and tranny.

Run the tester for codes and go from there.
If it runs OK and the think isn't dumping tonnes of soot out the tailpipe when you jamb the throttle probably not a lot wrong.
Remember, oil is blood and diesels dump a lot of bad stuff into their crankcases so don't forget to change the oil and filter.

Huge mileage eh haha. Pretty cool if you ask me, reminds me of old w124 and 300E taxi's with a million miles on it back in eastern europe!

Im just hoping to come across Some sort of MB mechanic on the forum who can tell me which parts start breaking down/become unreliable at these mileages. If anyone knows please reply!

Didnt read the posts below yet, sorry, thanks for the answers fellas

Beejay, imma just drive the bejezus out of it for a few months and then part it out i suppose. Then again i said the same about an old w208 320 compressor and its still sitting in the garage after 4 years bad habits or smthing... Oh well, theres worse things to waist money on! (Mumbles something about Bavaria)

I wouldn't replace emissions parts unless they go bad. Just do all the standard maintenance items; oil change, plugs, air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve, brake fluid, coolant, etc. Everything else, just check it. Don't just go replacing random **** for no reason. And have the front end checked thoroughly.

Check front end as in, look for any damage? In my country cars will always be reported as being 'in an accident'. In fact - selling a car and not having it on the contract is illegal and punishable by up to a year in prison!

My friend personally knows the taxi company he bought it from - hence i have no doubt there is no lieing about a 2K car when they trade over 100K worth of business a year. Thanks for the tips regardless!

No, I mean check the front suspension for wear. Like tie rod ends, balljoints, control arm bushings, swaybar links and bushings, struts, etc. Have the rear suspension checked too. I'm not talking about accidental damage.

absolutely amazing proposition. clearly the amount of work needed will be determined by where the service pattern left off for the taxi agency. Lets face it, only a car maintained overly well lives that long. They have probably kept decent records of what was done, and at least, what was done most recently. It all goes in a neverending cycle; Using the maintenance book you can just keep repeating the pattern of parts and fluids.

Belts/Chains for the engine are likely to be things left on for longer than they should be.

Sounds like an awesome car to snag like that man. Good connection there.

I have a car-lift (or w/e you call that in english lol) in the garage. So ill be checking it out myself. Jeah, maintanance is outrageously well done - In fact - a second maintanance book had to be bought because they were out of space on the first

Chain and tensioner have been replaced at 520K. And - it appearently just got new injectors.

So... i am now the proud owner of an E class

Will be setting the trunk right this evening cuz its a little out of the lining with the rear light and checking/cleaning engine parts and front/back end as recommended. Fluids will be done.

Hard to imagine this thing had over 10.000 hours of driving time!

Wish me luck

Thanks im from The Netherlands, bought the car from a friend in Germany. Germans take good care of their cars!

Found a used engine for € 2300,- with 160.000 kilometers. But I think ill just see how far this engine takes me first! Cause so far
I have yet to find flaws besides the trunk and some damage on the ashtray cover from where the taxi-meter used to be.

thanks Its alot of fun driving around with my sunglasses on - having people at the gas station tell me i have a nice car. When you know in the back of your head you can barely buy a 99 Honda Civic for the money i paid. I bought the car without seeing it - and i couldnt be happier!
