I was rear ended

Did your head restraints activate?
The car in front of me did not stay at the scene. I'm not sure why. He probably didn't know he was hit from behind but considering that my transmission busted I thought he would have felt the impact. There could be a lot of factors contributing to why he did not stay at the scene.
My head restraints did activate. That was a feature I did not know I have. What I found really strange is that the back panel of the driver seat came apart. I'm not sure how to desribe it but I could see into the mechanics of the driver seat from the back seat, if that makes any sense.

What you state is true for an average body shop repair. However, I have used specialty body shops that align everything to factory specs using lasers so its exact and therefore no leaks and no difference from new. These are the kind of shops that also do restorations.

My wife's MB SLK350 small SUV got T-Boned by a pickup truck, threw her 2 lanes over & landed past the sidewalk next to a tree. All airbags deployed. Did over $25K of damage. Our USAA insurance company didn't total it, just paid for the repairs. She traded it for a larger MB ML350 SUV.
My BMW 328i convertible had the hard top crushed by a fallen tree. I drove it to the dealer, car drives fine. However, USAA totalled it since they determined that it'll cost more to replace just the conv top.
I still don't understand how they figured that, but good news is that I got my C7 vert as a replacement...

Make sure the police report says exactly what you think it should. Get a paper copy. No matter what they said at the scene, the write up is often very different.
As for totalling, you have a fairly expensive car so repair could be less than totalling.
As for medical, get paper copies of all medical examinations, x-rays, etc. Don't assume what MD told you during exam is what they put in their records.
Hope the at fault party had good insurance. If he just had minimum coverage, you may have a problem and your company has to pay difference.
