This prehaps is the first car that I have ever owned, that Makes me go OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...
Only had the car for 15 Months, racked up 36,000 Miles. It is the 2012 E550 4Matic, Twin-turbo V8. On my treks of 1900 Miles per way, I would get 28-29 MPG. Averaging 68-70MPH. So very economical with all things considered.
Capability to which has brought a level to driving, in any weather, feel like a drive to the beach. My very first day driving out of state, hit an ICE Storm, middle Ohio on RT23. Farmlands, no cities, But very well maintained roads. Hit the storm, without realizing it. Saw 10+ Cars, 2 Semi's jacked knifed. Sliding all over the place. I kid you not, my first initial thought was, WTF are they doing. I just kept cruising along. Many rain storms, and it just drives like a Tank.
Performance, that has taken my breath away. On a number of head to heads. With 2 different C63's, and a E63, somewhat destroyed them. Not a flat out, win.. but to me, very good price for performance. The BiTurbo AMG's destroy mine. But any other stock E63, gets destroyed. The AWG, just offers Instant go. Sometimes, there is a buildup phase, usually around corners. But on highway, Just instant acceleration.
Reliability is pretty good. Went through 3 tires, Via pot holes. Really Glad i bought the Tire/Rim Warranty. Well worth the investment.
The 35,000 Miles have just been pure pleasure. After a while, the moment you drive a different car, It feels very different. Being a passenger in any small car, suddenly gets very uncomfortable.
Only modifications preformed, was adding a Separate Sub woofer. I went a little insane with it. I sacrificed my trunk (which breaks a bad habit i have, with messy trunks), with a Single JL-Audio 12W7, w\1000W, offers a devastating Sub bass response. Just playing the THX Theme, rivals an IMAX Theater sound system. The Car, being 4,000+ Lbs, is very insulated. Every mile, is an adventure so to speak.
Welcome! Yours looks a lot like my palladium E. The E550 4M is a very nice automobile especially with the M278 ttV8. I've said a few times my E550 is faster than my C63 on wet/snow, but on dry pavement the 6.3 is brutally fast and will easily outrun a 550 (when properly driven).
Probably not. I could see taking someone by surprise due to the E550 stealth factor and the 4matic giving you a great launch, but otherwise they weren't trying.
I recorded 26mpg (hand-calculated) from SF-area to UT last fall. It was just me in the car plus a little liquid love in the trunk courtesy of Costco. I used little to no A/C and went no more than 9mph over the 75-85mph limits, but did suffer a heavy foot over the Mtn pass outside of Sacramento following a newish Rover.
In your case, what were the conditions? Using a/c? Winds? Tires and psi? Passengers? Etc. so many variables...

Always using AC (live in FL), new tires (don't know what they are honestly I just got the car) PSI is "standard" or whatever is dealer recommended because again the car is only 2 weeks old... no passengers.
Wind is not major... but all good points. I have never had a car with a big engine like this so honestly I never worried about gas mileage until now, so I hadn't really thought of all those factors.
I keep the tires inflated a little higher when I am going on a long trip also always in sport mode, coast downhill when possible. These cars are so fast and roll forever it seems like they just love to go,I also think they are geared for that also. My E550 feels much better at highway speeds then around town.
