Windshield tinting bad for sensors?

I'm interested in getting my E550 tinted because FL is... FL.

Anyways, the dealer warned against any kind of tint on the windshield because "there are sensors there it could block"

Any truth to this? What sensors would it be? I guess rain sensors for the windshield wipers but I can't think of much else?

No way; Tint is installed on the inside. Sensors are on the outside of the top middle of the windshield.

got mine tinted and no issues at all. tint goes over the clear parts of the window, not where the sensors are at the top middle behind the rear view. Only sensor on the dash may be for ambient light detection and I haven't noticed any problems.

we have experienced customers that get tint done and the keyless-go features don't work as well. personally, I would recommend getting some of the higher performance (ie. ceramic or the like) tint. they are supposed to allow signal transmission better. just throwing that out there...

Should have added that I have ceramic on windshield and all other windows. So maybe that's why I have no issues with sensors.

Good to know about ceramic... maybe i'll just do that all the way around.

thefisch, how much did you pay for everything all around? I know you're in FL so i'm curious if your area is cheaper than my area...

I had mine tinted in Bradenton, Fl at a place called TintWorx; I think it was 300 for ceramic or other high end film.

ceramic is much better quality. will resist fading better, will not block RF signals, and will actually keep more heat out without being too dark. ie. heat transmission is lower with higher light transmission than regular dyed tint

Tampa area. I went with ceramic for $330 total. Llumar CTX 30 all around ($250) plus Llumar Air 80 on the windshield ($80).

Thanks for your responses! As always you're very helpful

Would suggest going with 3M Crystalline. I'm in FL also and did 70% on windshield and 50% on other windows. Did this over 2 yrs ago and no problems with rain sensors or anything else. Don't have keyless go so don't know of any issues with that.

I heard good things about 3M Crystalline but it was several hundred dollars more in my area.

CTX is a Llumar product. CXP is a Suntek product and appears to be ceramic (non-metallic) from their website. No experience with Suntek myself. I have had Llumar film on my cars for 10 years and had no issues.

Yes more expensive than others but well worth the price. 3m will give you lifetime warranty on material and install. Cost me about $700 for whole car but well worth it.

Anyone know of Sunguard black pearl Tint and their quality? Also does our car need any moleskin?

Noticed 3M had a few So FL authorized dealers listed. Will visit a couple soon. If anyone has So FL recommendation, it would be appreciated.

I had my vehicle tinted with 3M Crystalline 40, since then I've had no issues with sensors or KeylessGO, I highly recommend this film.
