Washing in rain
With the last weeks heavy rain fall I couldn't help it but kept my car outside for a good soaking and free wash (used car shampoo too). Wiped dry afterwards to a good finish. I'm just wondering, is there any downside to natural washing in rain versus tap water? Or it doesn't make any difference? Any thoughts....? Thanks.

Cars can handle the rain so I don't see why adding some soap would hurt. So long as your not under a tree where rain is bringing down stuff off the tree that you aren't rinsing off first. And if your car was very dirty to start, then a hose would have helped rinse off the excess dirt that the rain may not get off.
Didn't your grandmother tell you would catch a cold being out in the rain?

The only negative that comes to mind, rain contains a lot of impurities. A lot of fall out from any chemicals that might be in the air, acid rain, is the common example. Not to say that regular tap water doesn't have impurities either, but I think it would be on a much more controlled and safer level.

Unless the car sits in a garage, the rain is going to hit it anyway, so a bit of soap added in should be fine. Depending on where you live, the tap water may be fairly hard so in that case, rainwater is better since it wont leave marks when it dries.

Invite the neighbors, get naked and make a party out of it next time.

I wash my car in the rain all the time.....look like a fool but so what. I've found that for a quick wash, nothing drip drys better than rainwater, far fewer waterspots than the hardwater coming out of the hose.
Then again, I'm in California and would rejoice if we could get just a drizzle these days.

Doesn't always work
My car stays in garage most of the time. I will occasionally back it out and let the rain rinse it off.
